Fatty acid biosynthesis by avocado pear

Lipids, 1974
AbstractFatty acid synthesis in the avocado (Persea americana) mesocarp is due to three immunologically distinct enzyme systems. The plastid membranes synthesize a mixture of palmitic, stearic, and oleic acids. The plastid stroma, on the other hand, contains only palmitate elongase and cytoplasm only fatty acid synthetase.

Dietary fatty acids: Their metabolic fate and influence on fatty acid biosynthesis

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1965
AbstractAdult rats fed a low‐fat diet or diets containing 15% of either tripalmitin, triolein or trilinolein were injected intraperitoneally with H3‐labeled acetate. Those which received fat were also given by mouth, simultaneously with acetate, the 1‐C14‐labeled sodium salt of the respective dietary fatty acid.

A Pathway for the Biosynthesis of Fatty Acid Amides

1999
Fatty acid primary amides are potent, bioactive molecules. Oleamide induces physiological sleep1,2, potentiates the action of 5-hydroxytryptamine on rat brain 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors3, and blocks gap junction communication in glial cells4.
