Normal-fault stress and displacement through finite-element analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2005
We compute displacement and stress due to a normal fault by means of two-dimensional plane-strain finite-element analysis. To do so, we apply a system of forces to the fault nodes and develop an iterative algorithm serving to determine the force ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

A new artifact!! – In life of a dental radiograph: A rare radiographic finding! Or a rare finding on a radiograph!!

open access: yesJournal of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology, 2018
Radiograph play as an important adjunct, in addition to history and clinical evaluation for the diagnosis of pathologies in head and neck region. A good and ideal diagnostic radiograph is essential for this purpose.

Turn-to-turn fault protection technique for synchronous machines without additional voltage transformers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper presents a novel protection technique for the detection of inter-turn faults in synchronous machines. It is based on the calculation of voltage in the stator windings from the usual phases and neutral voltage, typically available in ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Robust Secondary Controller for Islanded Microgrids with Unexpected Electrical Partitions under Fault Conditions

open access: yesEnergies
This paper proposes a sophisticated, fault-tolerant, and centralized secondary controller that is designed for inverter-based, islanded microgrids. The proposed controller enhances system resilience to unexpected network partitions, which typically occur

Thermo-Physical and Geo-Mechanical Characterization of Faulted Carbonate Rock Masses (Valdieri, Italy)

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Water in rock masses is a key factor in geo-mechanics, hydrogeology, mining, geo-thermics, and more. It is relevant in interpreting rock mass behavior (e.g., water-rock interaction or slope stability), as well as in defining heat transfer mechanisms ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Fault Detection and Diagnosis in Air Conditioners and Refrigerators [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
A fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) method was used to detect and diagnose faults on both a refrigerator and an air conditioner during normal cycling operation.
