Interrogation of FBGs and FBGs Arrays Using Standard Telecom DFB Diode

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2016
An efficient fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor integration system, which utilizes a small number of standard Telecom opto-electronics components, is presented in this paper. Wavelength-swept optical pulses were generated by driving a standard telecom DFB laser diode by high amplitude (>3 A) and short duration (300 ns) current pulses. A total laser diode'

The FBG Stream Cipher

2007 National Radio Science Conference, 2007
In this paper we propose a new synchronous stream cipher; the FBG stream cipher. This cipher is based on FBG (fuzzy bit generator) PN bit generator. The FBG cipher has been designed to produce keystream with guaranteed randomness properties; i.e. passing all the 16 tests of the NIST statistical test suite.

FBGs in 3D printed objects monitoring

2021 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for Industry 4.0 & IoT (MetroInd4.0&IoT), 2021
In this work, the embedding of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) in 3D printed patches is proposed with the multiple aims to demonstrate the capabilities of the FBGs to monitor the deformation state and the temperature of the sensorized devices and to show the possibility to use this approach in the realization of robust and efficient packages for fiber ...

An optoelectronic oscillator using an FBG and an FBG-based Fabry–Perot filter

Optics Communications, 2015
Abstract An optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) with a new structure is presented, which uses a Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) and an FBG-based Fabry–Perot (F–P) filter as mode selectors. The phase noise of the OEO is measured down to −104 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset. The OEO with an F–P filter instead of a RF filter has a long-term stability.

Sensitivity improvement of reflective tilted FBGs

Applied Optics, 2016
Tilted fiber Bragg gratings are used as energy couplers in which the core mode and cladding modes can be coupled together. Cladding modes have extensive importance in sensing applications due to their sensitive characteristics to the surrounding refractive index.

FBG based transducers for morphing applications

2015 9th International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST), 2015
The measurement of large deformations represents a challenging issue for many engineering applications. To name a few, morphing and deployable aerospace structures, due to the intrinsic large deformations, require dedicated sensing systems able to capture the current geometry (shape reconstruction) and to detect the stress level (structural health ...

Novel FBG triangular filter for interrogating a FBG sensor in dynamic strain measurement

Optoelectronics Letters, 2006
We demonstrate the fabrication and the application of an in-fiber triangular filter (T-filter) based on a linearly chirped and apodized fiber Bragg grating (FBG). The theoretical analysis shows that this type of FBG T-filter has a good response in the demodulation of a wavelength-matched FBG sensor.

Design of an FBG Based Water Leakage Monitoring System, Case of Study: An FBG Pressure Sensor

IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Magazine, 2021
Water leakages in water distribution systems due aging of pipes is a problem affecting most countries around the world. Official reports from government-commissioned surveys indicate that water losses are estimated to amount to an average of around 30% in most countries, with peaks up to 60% [1]–[3]. Such amounts increase in urban areas, reaching 70 to

Sensor monitoring system with embedded FBGs

2014 16th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2014
In this paper, we propose a simple monitoring system with the use of specially fabricated Fibre Bragg Gratings (FBGs) and Optical Power Meter (OPM). The main idea bases on stable and easy to build system for environmental parameters measurements using in-line fused FBGs. Here are presented the results of temperature measurement monitoring system.

High-precision FBG sensor demodulation based on a tunable Michelson interferometer with parallel FBGs

Optics Letters
A high-precision signal demodulation scheme for fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is presented. The scheme utilizes a piezoelectric transducer (PZT) tuned co-located, multi-wavelength tunable FBGs (CMWT-FBGs) in one arm of the Michelson interferometer (MI), which adjusts its central-wavelength range to fully cover the ...
