Characterization of Phase Transformation by Fe-SEM and Fe-TEM Analysis

open access: yesMicroscopy and Microanalysis, 2001
Abstract The formation of a silicon alloy has been achieved by electron beam irradiation of a nickel-silicon bilayer. This process, called SiDWEL1, has been developed by Quantiscript. The nickel-silicon bilayer is very thin and the electron beam operates at low energy and current. Silicide formation occurred around the interaction volume

Structural Analysis of Xanthan GUM-FE (III) Capsules [PDF]

open access: yesAcademic Journal of Chemistry, 2020
In this work, the formation of capsules in xanthan gum and complexing solutions of Fe III is structurally evaluated. These capsules have a spheroid shape that, when dried, collapse into disc shapes. These spheroids are made up of microspheres that partially explain this collapse.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Influence of the Shape of the Test Specimen Produced by 3D Printing on the Stress Distribution in the Matrix and in Long Reinforcing Fibers

open access: yesJournal of Mechanical Engineering, 2019
The stress distribution in specimens designed for the tensile testing is evaluated in the article. The reinforcement consists of long fibers that copy the outer contour of the specimen.

Specific test panels for patients with heart failure: implementation and use in the Spanish National Health System

open access: yesAdvances in Laboratory Medicine, 2022
The use of specific test panels (STP) for heart failure (HF) could help improve the management of this condition. The purpose of this study is to gain an insight into the level of implementation of STPs in the management of HF in Spain and gather the ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Phylogenetic analysis of dissimilatory Fe(III)-reducing bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1996
Evolutionary relationships among strictly anaerobic dissimilatory Fe(III)-reducing bacteria obtained from a diversity of sedimentary environments were examined by phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences. Members of the genera Geobacter, Desulfuromonas, Pelobacter, and Desulfuromusa formed a monophyletic group within the delta subdivision of ...

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Finite element analysis of shape-memory polymer mast

open access: yesInternational Journal of Smart and Nano Materials, 2019
Space masts are widely used in the aerospace engineering as one type of deployable space structures. In this paper, based on the stimuli-responsive effects of shape-memory polymers (SMPs), an intelligent mast with shape-memory function is studied.
