Analysis of the exercise intention-behavior gap among college students using explainable machine learning

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
IntroductionThe physical fitness of college students is a growing global public health concern. A critical challenge in improving student fitness is addressing the intention-behavior gap–the disconnect between students' intentions to engage in physical ...

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Predicting the Coordination Number of Transition Metal Elements from XANES Spectra Using Deep Learning

open access: yesInorganics
X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra are employed to characterise the coordination numbers of metallic elements within materials. However, conventional XANES analysis methods frequently rely on preconceived assumptions regarding the ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

From Black Box to Transparency: An Explainable Machine Learning (ML) Framework for Ocean Wave Prediction Using SHAP and Feature-Engineering-Derived Variable

open access: yesMathematics
Accurate prediction of significant wave height (SWH) is central to coastal ocean dynamics, wave–climate assessment, and operational marine forecasting, yet many high-performing machine-learning (ML) models remain opaque and weakly connected to underlying

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Enhancing the Predictive Accuracy of Corrosion Inhibition Efficiency Using Gradient Boosting with Feature Engineering and Gaussian Mixture Model

open access: yesJournal of Applied Informatics and Computing
Prediction The development of Quantitative structure property relationship (QSPR) models for predicting corrosion inhibition efficiency (IE) often faces challenges due to small datasets, which heightens the risk of overfitting and results in less ...
