Oral Prebiotic Polysaccharide Hydrogels Sustaining Colon Antibody Release Alleviate Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An orally administered prebiotic polysaccharide hydrogel (predaGel) based on inulin and alginate‐dopamine is stable in the stomach, adheres to the intestine, and degrades slowly in the colon. It enables site‐specific delivery of anti‐TNF‐α and anti‐IL‐12/23 antibodies, scavenges reactive oxygen species, and remodels gut microbiota, offering effective ...

Effect of Vegan Fecal Microbiota Transplantation on Carnitine‐ and Choline‐Derived Trimethylamine‐N‐Oxide Production and Vascular Inflammation in Patients With Metabolic Syndrome

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2018
BackgroundIntestinal microbiota have been found to be linked to cardiovascular disease via conversion of the dietary compounds choline and carnitine to the atherogenic metabolite TMAO (trimethylamine‐N‐oxide).

Microbiota Composition of the Intestinal Mucosa: Association with Fecal Microbiota? [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology and Immunology, 2004
AbstractThe fecal and mucosal microbiota of infants with rectal bleeding and the fecal microbiota of healthy age‐matched controls were investigated by fluorescent in situ hybridization. Bifidobacteria were the main genus in both the feces and mucosa.

Microalgae Hybrid Biosystem for Enhanced Oral Delivery of Rifaximin in Hepatic Encephalopathy Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The microalgae‐nanoparticle hybrid system with antibacterial activity can improve the oral delivery and therapeutic efficiency for hepatic encephalopathy treatment. Oral administration of the system can reduced systemic ammonia levels, enhanced intestinal barrier function, attenuated systemic and neuroinflammation, ameliorated cognitive impairments ...

Microbiota restoration therapies for recurrent infection reach an important new milestone

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology
Microbiota restoration therapy has become a standard treatment for recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (rCDI). In this article, we review the studies supporting the licensure of two live biotherapeutic products (LBPs) designed to prevent rCDI ...

Fecal transplant allows transmission of the gut microbiota in honey bees

open access: yesmSphere
The study of the fecal microbiota is crucial for unraveling the pathways through which gut symbionts are acquired and transmitted. While stable gut microbial communities are essential for honey bee health, their modes of acquisition and transmission are ...

Frequent Sweetened Beverage Consumption Is Associated With Accelerated Biological Aging: Evidence From a Population‐Based Study and Gut Microbiota Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Frequent sweetened beverage consumption is associated with accelerated biological aging in a large Chinese population. Five gut microbial genera are consistently enriched in both frequent sweetened beverage consumers and individuals with accelerated aging and show significant mediating effects, suggesting a potential microbiota‐related pathway linking ...

Healthspan and lifespan extension by fecal microbiota transplantation into progeroid mice

open access: yesNature Medicine, 2019
The gut microbiome is emerging as a key regulator of several metabolic, immune and neuroendocrine pathways1,2. Gut microbiome deregulation has been implicated in major conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic ...

Cobalt Single‐Atom Nanozyme for Enhanced Intestinal Radioprotection and Tumor Radiosensitization via Bidirectional ROS Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Orally administered, pH‐responsive Co‐SAN exerts dual functions: in the alkaline intestinal milieu, it scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) and suppresses the PI3K/AKT pathway and NETs formation, thus providing radioprotection; whereas in the acidic tumor microenvironment, it generates ROS and alleviates hypoxia, thereby enhancing radiosensitization.

Intermittent Fasting Restores Cardiac Lipid Homeostasis in Diabetic Cardiomyopathy in Association With Akkermansia Muciniphila and 1‐methyl‐L‐histidine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Intermittent fasting reshapes the gut microbiota in diabetic cardiomyopathy, restoring Akkermansia muciniphila and the microbiota‐associated metabolite 1‐methyl‐L‐histidine. This shift is linked to improved cardiac lipid homeostasis, reduced lipid peroxidation, and attenuated myocardial injury, highlighting a gut microbiota–metabolite–lipid axis in ...
