Pancreatic α‐cell dysfunction associated with equine insulin dysregulation

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Insulin dysregulation (ID) in horses is characterised by insulin resistance and exaggerated insulin responses, yet the underlying endocrine mechanisms remain incompletely understood. In humans, α‐cell dysfunction characterised by exaggerated glucagon secretion contributes to metabolic disease; however, the role of pancreatic α‐cell ...

Evaluation of a new immunoassay for measuring equine serum insulin and plasma adrenocorticotrophic hormone: A method comparison study

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Insulin dysregulation (ID) and pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) are common equine endocrinopathies detected by measurement of circulating insulin and adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) concentrations. Different assays may yield variable results, limiting comparability.

Under‐Explored Species, Breeds and Cell Types With Potential for Cultivated Meat Production

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates how the strategic selection of overlooked cell lines from novel species and specific agricultural breeds can help overcome current manufacturing bottlenecks in cultivated meat production. The schematic links the concept of an ‘ideal cell line’ to four key bioprocessing and product advantages that can be optimised ...

Structural and Functional Stability of Natural Actomyosin From Freshwater Snail (Bellamya bengalensis): Unraveling Thermal and pH Effects

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Natural actomyosin from B. bengalensis exhibited maximum solubility (∼69.9%) at 40°C and stability near neutral pH, with minimum solubility at pH 4. Surface hydrophobicity and emulsifying activity peaked at 50°C, whereas Ca2+‐ATPase and foaming peaked at 40°C. DSC and SDS–PAGE confirmed denaturation above 40°C.
