Feed intake.

Fundamentals of applied animal nutrition, 2021
In this chapter the processes involve in regulating feed intake in animals are discussed. Topics also include: predicting feed intake; practical factors which affects intake; and relationship between intake and performance: residual feed intake and feed ...

Effects of acute heat stress on intestinal microbiota in grow‐finishing pigs, and associations with feed intake and serum profile

Journal of Applied Microbiology, 2020
This study was conducted to assess the effects of acute heat stress (HS) on intestinal microbiota, and the associations with the changes in feed intake (FI) and serum profile.

Genetic modeling of feed intake

Journal of Animal Science, 2015
ABSTRACT With the development of automatic self-feeders and electronic identification, automated, repeated measurements of individual feed intake (FI) and BW are becoming available in more species. Consequently, genetic models for longitudinal data need to be applied to study FI or related traits.

Feed Quality and Feed Intake

1990
The control of food intake in mammals is highly complex. Some of the factors known to be involved in the initiation of hunger and in the inhibition of eating are listed below.

Palatability and feed intake regulations

1994
As a result of the increase in the total world population, more grains and animal products have to be produced for food. The competition between the humans and the birds for consuming grains, as wheat and maize, has triggered much research to find suitable alternative feedstuffs for poultry (milling by-products, animal by-products and biological waste).

Feeding: Neural Control of Intake

Annual Review of Physiology, 1971
The year 1969-1970 was one of the most fruitful in the realm of feeding systems. New developments included aphagia produced without finickiness, glucose deprivation receptors revealed in the lateral hypothalamus, recovery of feeding shown to match ontogenetic development, electrically elicited feeding changed into drinking, hypothalamic aversion ...

Longitudinal analysis of body weight, feed intake and residual feed intake in F2 chickens

Livestock Science, 2016
The aim of this study was to estimate covariance functions, using B-spline random regression models for body weight (BW), feed intake (FI) and residual feed intake (RFI) in F2 chickens. Feed intake and body weight were recorded on each bird every week from 2 to 10 weeks of age.

Prediction of voluntary feed intake from feed analysis

Proceedings of the British Society of Animal Production (1972), 1987
It is axiomatic that the amount of feed eaten by any animal depends on both animal and feed factors. Although there have been a great many investigations of variations of the composition of the diet on feed intake, most of the equations which are available for the prediction of intake rely on animal factors such as live weight and milk yield and on the

Feed intake after inhibition of histamine catabolism

Agents and Actions, 1990
It has been reported that histamine and its precursor histidine have a feeding-suppressing effect. The present study shows that metoprine (20 mg/kg i.p.), which increases brain histamine levels by inhibiting its catabolism, also significantly decreases daily feed intake in rats.
