Feed intake in Atlantic salmon fed with or without surface spreading of feed
In intensive salmon farming, it is common practice to spread the feed over a large surface area, assuming that spreading of the feed increases feed intake in the fish.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

The Benefish consortium reports on the influence of system water refreshment rates on realized feed load, weight development, fish physiology and behaviour in turbot [PDF]
Farmers with recirculation aquaculture systems (RAS) have a greater necessity and capacity to control the culture conditions of their farms than farmers with other aquaculture systems.

8.5. Discussion: rumen sensing, feed intake & precise feeding
This chapter is the result of the joint session hosted by the EAAP (European Federation of Animal Science) and EU-PLF (Precision Livestock Farming) held in Copenhagen 2014. Following the full-length peer-reviewed papers, presented in Chapters 8.1 – 8.4, this chapter brings together ‘questions and answers' debates during this session’s discussions ...

PSI-1 Assessment of Nursing Calf Feed Intake Equations in Predicting Calf Feed Intake
Abstract Nutrition models are important in predicting animal growth; however, little research has focused on nursing calf performance submodels. This project’s objective was to determine the accuracy and precision of two equations to compute nursing calves’ feed intake. Data were collected on 394 nursing calves from 4 sets of cows (years

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Estimating breeding values for feed efficiency in dairy cattle by regression on expected feed intake
The efficiency with which a dairy cow utilises feed for the various physiological and metabolic processes can be evaluated by metrics that contrast realised feed intake with expected feed intake.

Feed habituation alleviates decreased feed intake after feed replacement in broilers
In the present study, 2 experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of replacing a mash diet with a pellet diet on the expression of genes related to appetite in the hypothalamus and gastrointestinal tract (GT) and to evaluate the attenuating effect of feed habituation on the disadvantage influence on feed consumption.

Suitability of feeding and chewing time for estimation of feed intake in dairy cows.
Monitoring of feeding and rumination behaviour can provide useful information for dairy herd management. The feeding behaviour of dairy cows can be recorded by different techniques, such as video cameras, weighing troughs or chewing sensors.
