Isolation of feline calicivirus and feline herpesvirus from domestic cats 1980 to 1989
Veterinary Record, 1991Isolation rates of feline herpesvirus (FHV) and feline calicivirus (FCV) from oropharyngeal swabs, taken from 6866 cats in 1980 to 1989 were studied retrospectively. FCV was isolated from 1364 (19.9 per cent) and FHV from 285 (4.2 per cent). The ratio of FCV:FHV isolations varied from 1.3:1 to 15:1 in individual years with an overall ratio of 4.8:1 ...

Substrate specificity of feline and canine herpesvirus thymidine kinase
Antiviral Research, 2008The thymidine kinases from feline herpesvirus (FHV TK) and canine herpesvirus (CHV TK) were cloned and characterized. The two proteins are closely sequence-related to each other and also to the herpes simplex virus type 1 thymidine kinase (HSV-1 TK). Although FHV TK and CHV TK have a level of identity of 31 and 35%, respectively, with HSV-1 TK, and a ...

Isolation of feline herpesvirus 1 from a young kitten
Veterinary Record, 1980Five kittens exposed neonatally to older cats exhibiting fever with nasal and ocular discharge became ill and died within 10 days of the onset of illness. One kitten which died at 16 days old was examined post mortem and feline herpesvirus 1 was isolated from the brain, liver, lung and spleen.

Effects of valacyclovir in cats infected with feline herpesvirus 1
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1997Abstract Objective To determine whether orally administered valacyclovir can be used safely and effectively to treat cats with primary, feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV-1) infection. Animals 14 specific-pathogen-free adult cats. Procedure Cats were infected with FHV-1 strain 87-727 (300 μl, 107 plaque-forming units/ml) by ocular and nasal inoculations ...

Vaccination against feline leukaemia using a new feline herpesvirus type 1 vector
Vaccine, 1996A recombinant feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) was constructed expressing the envelope glycoprotein gene from feline leukaemia virus (FeLV). The expression cassette containing the long terminal repeat promoter from Rous sarcoma virus was stably integrated at the locus downstream of the gC homologue in FHV-1. Oronasal vaccination with recombinant FHV-1
