Properties and Functions of Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 Glycoproteins.

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 1998
Feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) is a causative agent of feline viral rhinotracheitis and belongs to the subfamily Alphaherpesvirinae of the family Herpesviridae. Since first isolated in 1958 by Crandell and Maurer, FHV-1 is distributed worldwide and is the most clinically significant agent for respiratory infections in cats.

Identification of feline herpesvirus type 1-hemagglutinin.

open access: yesThe Japanese Journal of Veterinary Science, 1989
The crude hemagglutinin of feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1), solubilized from infected fcwf-4 cells by detergents, was partially purified by three kinds of chromatographic methods. Lectin-affinity chromatography showed the hemagglutination (HA) activity in fractions, which was bound to Concanavalin A-sepharose and then eluted by alpha-methyl D ...

Development of a triple NanoPCR method for feline calicivirus, feline panleukopenia syndrome virus, and feline herpesvirus type I virus

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2022
Background Feline calicivirus (FCV), Feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), and Feline herpesvirus type I (FHV-1) are the three most common pathogens in cats, and also are the main pathogens leading to the death of kittens.

In Cats Infected With Feline Herpesvirus Type-1 (FHV-1) Does Treatment With Famciclovir Result in a Reduction of Respiratory and Ocular Clinical Signs?

open access: yesVeterinary Evidence, 2017
Clinical bottom lineBased on the current available evidence, famciclovir may have a positive effect on reducing respiratory and ocular clinical signs of feline herpesvirus type-1 (FHV-1) disease, however further research is needed before famciclovir can ...

Viral vector vaccines for cats: a comprehensive review

open access: yesEMI: Animal & Environment
Vaccination plays a vital role in the prevention and control of infectious viruses in cats, including feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), feline calicivirus (FCV), and feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1).

Characterization of the Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 Immediate Early Gene Expression.

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 1996
We analyzed the mechanism for feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) immediate early (IE) gene expression. We demonstrated that (i) the transcription initiation site of the FHV-1 IE transcript lies in the putative FHV-1 ICP4 binding site, (ii) the FHV-1 IE transcript is spliced to remove 906 bp intron from the leader region, (iii) cis-acting elements of the

Prevalence of Serum Antibody Titers against Core Vaccine Antigens in Italian Cats

open access: yesLife, 2023
Feline core vaccines strongly recommended for all cats are against Feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), Felid herpesvirus type 1 (FeHV-1), and Feline calicivirus (FCV), but cats can be classified as low- and high-risk based on their lifestyle.

Epidemiological status of felid herpesvirus type-1 and feline calicivirus infections in Brazil

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2015
Feline calicivirus (FCV) and felid herpesvirus type-1 (FeHV-1) are the main infectious agents of domestic and wild felines worldwide. The FCV and FeHV-1 viruses were isolated in Brazil in 1988 and 2012, respectively. Serology surveys were performed among

Experimental Infection of Recent Field Isolates of Feline Herpesvirus Type 1

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 2003
Two field isolates of feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) designated as 00-015 and 00-035, were obtained from cats diagnosed as feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR) in Japan. To analyze the character of recent FHV-1, these two isolates and our laboratory strain C7301 were inoculated experimentally to specific-pathogen-free cats.

Development and application of a dual ERA method for the detection of Feline Calicivirus and Feline Herpesvirus Type I

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2023
Feline calicivirus (FCV) and feline herpesvirus type I (FHV-1) are the most common viral pathogens responsible for cat respiratory diseases, and coinfection with these two pathogens is often found.
