Silent pressure: Unveiling spinal lymphoma in horses and its parallels to other species

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, Volume 38, Issue 5, Page 231-234, May 2026.
Summary Though the nervous system is an uncommon location for lymphoma, the disease should remain a differential diagnosis in some cases of ataxia in equids. Diagnosis of lymphoma can be challenging, although a combination of cytology, histopathology and immunophenotyping can aid in definitive diagnosis and therefore more accurately guide treatment and

Simulated Microgravity Causes Faster Replication During Acute Infection of ME49‐Toxoplasma Gondii and Alterations in Host Cells

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, Volume 8, Issue 4, April 2026.
Simulated microgravity (SMG) alters the growth and morphology of host cells and induces parasite replication during acute T. gondii infection. In this study, we examined host cells and Type II T. gondii using a 3D clinostat. Increased number of host cells and multicellular spheroids observed in Vero cells and HFF.

Construction of the Recombinant Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 Deleted Thymidine Kinase Gene.

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 1995
We constructed a recombinant virus containing defined deletion within thymidine kinase (TK) gene from feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) C7301, which was isolated in Japan, by standard rescue procedures with thymidine arabinoside (araT) selection. The araT resistant recombinant virus was designated as C7301dlTK.

Feline herpesvirus infection and pathology in captive snow leopard

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) is a common causative agent of domestic cats’ rhinotracheitis in domestic cats, and it increasingly threatens wild felids worldwide.

Sharing Is Caring?—Pathogens and Pathogen‐Specific Antibodies in Arctic Endemic Seal Species and the Newly Sympatric Harbor Seals in Kongsfjorden, Svalbard

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 42, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Climate change associated transformations of Arctic marine ecosystems are having detrimental impacts on Arctic endemic marine mammals. However, warming conditions are providing new habitats for temperate marine mammals, some of which are expanding into Arctic regions, posing a threat of novel pathogen introduction and disease transmission.

DNA Virus Detection in Olfactory Neuroblastomas Using Targeted Enrichment NGS

open access: yesNeuropathology, Volume 46, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT A variety of malignancies can be found in the sinonasal tract including the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, and skull base. Many of these are attributed to viruses, for example, carcinomas with the presence of transcriptionally active high‐risk human papillomavirus, as well as Epstein–Barr virus associated malignant lymphoepithelial carcinoma

Nano‐ and Micro‐Sized Solid Materials Used as Antiviral Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 26, 30 March 2026.
Due to the rise of viral infections in humans and possible viral outbreaks, the use of nano‐ or micro‐sized materials as antiviral agents is rapidly increasing. This review explores their antiviral properties against RNA and DNA viruses, either as a prevention or a treatment tool, by delving into their mechanisms of action and how to properly assess ...

Development of a reporter feline herpesvirus-1 for antiviral screening assays

open access: yesVeterinary Research
Feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1), a member of the Herpesviridae family, is one of the most important pathogens that causes upper respiratory tract disease in felines.

Further Development of a Recombinant Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 Vector Expressing Feline Calicivirus Immunogenic Antigen.

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 1998
We previously reported the attenuation of thymidine kinase (TK) deficient mutant (C7301dlTK) of feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) in cats and the construction of a recombinant FHV-1 (C7301dlTK-Cap) inserted a precursor capsid gene of feline calcivirus (FCV) into the TK deletion locus of the C7301dlTK.

Survival of viral pathogens in animal feed ingredients under transboundary shipping models. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
The goal of this study was to evaluate survival of important viral pathogens of livestock in animal feed ingredients imported daily into the United States under simulated transboundary conditions. Eleven viruses were selected based on global significance
