Formation of nanostructures by femtosecond laser processing

2015 International Conference on Manipulation, Manufacturing and Measurement on the Nanoscale (3M-NANO), 2015
The formation of laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) on metallic surfaces by femtosecond laser radiation was investigated. Various types of LIPSS could be formed on metallic surfaces such as copper and stainless steel. Nano-ripple formation was investigated as function of laser scanning speed, laser pulse number, and laser fluence ...

Femtosecond Ti:Sa Laser Processing of Silica

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
The result of direct ablation of silicon by an 800 nm Ti:Sa femtosecond laser pulses are presented. Obtained slice of silicon with submicron roughness with tilt focused femtosecond laser pulses. Yaw cut more due to mechanical vibrations of the entire installation on a pneumatic table, but not the physics of the ongoing process.

Femtosecond lasers and their implications for materials processing

SPIE Proceedings, 1998
As a result of rapid engineering progress, femtosecond lasers will soon be available for industrial applications such as micro machining. I will review the physics behind laser machining of metals, semiconductors and transparent materials. Then I will briefly discuss the current state-of- the-art in femtosecond laser technology of interest to micro ...

Femtosecond laser processing of lysozyme crystals

2005 Pacific Rim Conference on Lasers & Electro-Optics, 2006
We have developed a novel processing technique for lysozyme crystals using femtosecond laser ablation. This procedure enables us to make problematic protein crystals suitable for X-ray diffraction measurements to determine the three-dimensional (3D) protein structure.

Femtosecond laser materials processing in the townes laser institute

ICALEO 2009: 28th International Congress on Laser Materials Processing, Laser Microprocessing and Nanomanufacturing, 2009
Femtosecond Laser Materials Processing (FLMP) is an active area of research for its superior processing quality compared to conventional laser processing with nano- and picosecond (ps) pulses. Advances in femtosecond (fs) laser technology including the development of high repetition rate fiber-based systems are now making FLMP more industrially viable ...

Materials processing using femtosecond lasers

ICALEO 2001: Proceedings of the Laser Materials Processing Conference and Laser Microfabrication Conference, 2001
The Femtosecond-regime pulsed laser has become the tool of choice for next generation precision materials processing. Experimental results are presented for femtosecond-regime laser precision machining and compared to processing conducted with laser pulse durations in the Nanosecond-regime and longer.

Applications of femtosecond lasers in materials processing

CLEO/Europe - EQEC 2009 - European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference, 2009
Chemical bonding, phase transitions, and surface processes occur on timescales comparable to the natural oscillation periods of atoms and molecules, in the range of femtoseconds (1 fs =10−15 s) to picoseconds (1 ps = 10−12 s). Advances in the generation of ultrashort laser pulses in the past two decades have made it possible to directly observe these ...

Femtosecond Lasers and Ultrafast Processes in Semiconductors

1986
Rapid progress has been made in the last few years1 on pico-second and femto-second lasers and related experimental techniques for studying ultrafast processes in various materials, including the dynamics of hot carriers in semiconductors. Of particular interest are GaAs and related compounds and structures, which are important for modern high-speed ...
