Data Collection and Harmonization in Preterm Respiratory Research: Recommendations and Insights From PELICAN

open access: yesPediatric Pulmonology, Volume 61, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Individuals born preterm (before 37 weeks’ gestation) have an increased risk of developing lung disease compared with those born at term. However, life‐long lung function trajectories and the factors influencing them remain insufficiently understood in this population, reflecting an unfortunate scarcity of data, substantial ...

Asthma and Lung Function in School‐Aged Children After Severe RSV‐A and RSV‐B Bronchiolitis, Is There Any Difference?

open access: yesPediatric Pulmonology, Volume 61, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) is a major cause of respiratory disease. It is classified into two antigenic subgroups. While several authors have studied the potential link between HRSV infection and later development of recurrent wheezing (RW) or asthma, no previous studies have assessed the role of HRSV subtypes.

Recurrent Asthma Exacerbations Secondary to Gastric Stenosis After Gastric Band Slippage: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
We present a patient with long‐standing severe Type 2 asthma complicated by recurrent exacerbations of an infective nature that was ultimately found to be associated with gastric band slippage causing gastric stenosis and delayed gastric emptying. Exacerbations ceased after surgical intervention and removal of the band.

Update on Non‐Biological and RNA‐Based Therapeutics in Chronic Inflammatory Diseases: Precision Medicine Through Small Molecules: An EAACI Position Paper

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 81, Issue 9, Page 3039-3070, September 2026.
ABSTRACT In the last decades, critical advancements in research technology and knowledge on disease mechanisms steered therapeutic approaches for chronic inflammatory diseases towards unprecedented target specificity. For allergic and chronic lung diseases, biologic drugs pioneered this goal, acquiring on the way—through the clinical use of monoclonal ...

Small Airways Dysfunction and Remission in Adults With Asthma: A Longitudinal Exploratory Analysis of the AssessmenT of smalL Airways involvemeNT In aSthma (ATLANTIS) Study

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 81, Issue 9, Page 3185-3196, September 2026.
We conducted a post hoc analysis of ATLANTIS, a multinational prospective study including 684 adults with asthma. Fewer small airway symptoms and lower disease activity are independently associated with asthma remission. Replicated airway transcriptomic signatures show increased IL‐4/13 signalling and reduced coagulation pathways across the ATLANTIS ...

The diagnostic value of combined pulmonary function test and exhaled nitric oxide monitoring in cough variant asthma with or without gastroesophageal reflux disease: a retrospective study

open access: yesBMC Pulmonary Medicine
Introduction This study aimed to investigate the effect of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), a marker of airway inflammation, together with small airway function tests in diagnosing cough variant asthma (CVA), particularly in patients with ...

Nasal Airway Transcriptome Reflects Selected Asthma‐Associated Gene Signatures in the Lower Airways

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 81, Issue 9, Page 3197-3205, September 2026.
Seven genes and two gene modules were consistently associated with asthma in both airway compartments in ARMS and were validated in ATLANTIS. The two modules reflected IL‐13 related inflammation and mast cell activity, respectively. Nasal gene signatures provide a non‐invasive proxy for selected bronchial asthma‐associated gene signatures. ARMS, Asthma
