Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Homogeneous degradation of the Remazol Black B dye by Fenton and photo-Fenton processes in aqueous medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this research, factorial designs have been employed to study the influence of three important factors ([H2O2], [Fe2+] and the reaction time) on the discoloration and the degradation of Remazol Black B dye by Fenton and photo-Fenton processes.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Zn-edta degradation by catechol-driven fenton reaction

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2012
Zn-EDTA degradabilty by catechol-driven Fenton reaction was studied. Response surface methodology central composite design was employed to maximize this complex degradation. Theoretical speciation calculations were in good agreement with the experimental

Pyrite oxidation under initially neutral pH conditions and in the presence of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and micromolar hydrogen peroxide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at a micromolar level played a role in the microbial surface oxidation of pyrite crystals under initially neutral pH. When the mineral-bacteria system was cyclically exposed to 50 μM H2O2, the colonization of Acidithiobacillus ...

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron

Construction of iron-mineralized black phosphorene nanosheet to combinate chemodynamic therapy and photothermal therapy

open access: yesDrug Delivery, 2022
Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) by triggering Fenton reaction or Fenton-like reaction to generate hazardous hydroxyl radical (•OH), is a promising strategy to selectively inhibit tumors with higher H2O2 levels and relatively acidic microenvironment.

Regeneration of activated carbon by fenton and photofenton oxidation for the treatment of phenol wastewater [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Advanced Oxidation Processes have emerged as promising technologies for the recovery of carbons saturated with aromatic molecules, owing to their potency to degrade a wide range of organic pollutants by the generation of very reactive and non selective ...
