Optimization and validation of a GC-FID method for the determination of acetone-butanol-ethanol fermentation products.

open access: yesJournal of Chromatographic Science, 2014
An improved, simple gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) method was developed for measuring the products of acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation and the combined fermentation/separation processes.

Hydrogen production using Purple Non-Sulfur Bacteria (PNSB) cultivated under natural or artificial light conditions with synthetic or fermentation derived substrates

open access: yes, 2014
The aim of this thesis was to verify the feasibility of the hydrogen production process with purple non sulfur bacteria both under sunlight irradiation in an up-scaled system and with the use of low cost substrates. Among the products offermentations tested the best results were obtained with a medium derived from vegetable wastes.

Wireless and Self‐Powered Wearable Pressure Sensors Based on Chitosan for Artificial Mechanoreceptors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A novel self‐powered wearable pressure sensor is fabricated using chitosan‐ZnO composite piezoelectric film, achieving sensitivities of 70.71 mV/kPa and 471.43 mV Hz−1. This lightweight and biodegradable device emulates mechanoreceptors for applications such as object classification, wireless data transmission, and gesture recognition, offering an eco ...

A decomposition theorem for immersions of product manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
We introduce polar metrics on a product manifold, which have product and warped product metrics as special cases. We prove a de Rham-type theorem characterizing Riemannian manifolds that can be locally decomposed as a product manifold endowed with a polar metric.

Aerosol Jet Printing of Superhydrophobic Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A novel method for creating spatially programmable superhydrophobic surfaces using an aerosol jet printer is presented. This technique allows precise deposition of micrometer‐sized polymer solution droplets onto a substrate, with control over surface morphology, microstructure, and wettability through solvent evaporation modulation.

Products of abstract polytopes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Given two convex polytopes, the join, the cartesian product and the direct sum of them are well understood. In this paper we extend these three kinds of products to abstract polytopes and introduce a new product, called the topological product, which also arises in a natural way. We show that these products have unique prime factorization theorems.

High‐Performance and Ultrafast Single Germanium Nanowire Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Semiconductor nanowire‐based photodetectors with high sensitivity and fast photoresponse in the near‐infrared wavelength range are crucial for applications in light‐wave communication switches, as well as environmental and atmospheric sensing. Here, the fabrication of an axial p‐n junction along single germanium nanowires and their photoresponse ...

Wreath products of cocommutative Hopf algebras [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We define wreath products of cocommutative Hopf algebras, and show that they enjoy a universal property of classifying cleft extensions, analogous to the Kaloujnine-Krasner theorem for groups. We show that the group ring of a wreath product of groups is the wreath product of their group rings, and that (with a natural definition of wreath products of

Enzymatic Asymmetric Synthesis of All Stereoisomers of Aliphatic, Vicinal Diols in Conventional and Non‐Conventional Media

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
Abstract Chiral, vicinal diols are of high interest for academic research and industrial applications. For synthesizing chiral diols, enzymes are important catalysts due to their high selectivity and ability to work under tolerable temperature and no pressure.

Bioactive Peptides Derived from Whey Proteins for Health and Functional Beverages

open access: yesFermentation
Milk serves as a crucial source of natural bioactive compounds essential for human nutrition and health. The increased production of high-protein dairy products is a source of whey—a valuable secondary product that, along with other biologically valuable
