Maternal Diet Quality and Third Trimester Depression: Insights From a Nepali Birth Cohort Study

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, Volume 22, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Maternal diet quality and perinatal depression significantly impact maternal and child health, yet their relationship remains underexplored in low‐resource settings. This cross‐sectional study examined the association between overall diet quality and risk of depression during the third trimester among 296 pregnant women receiving antenatal ...

A critical role of heterotrophic bacteria in early diagenesis of carbonates through exopolymer degradation and calcium release

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
Exopolymeric substances (EPS) produced in the photic zone and surface sediments sequester calcium. Below the sediment surface, heterotrophic bacteria degrade EPS, releasing calcium resulting in carbonate precipitation. This process, which continues for millennia deep in the core, is an important sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Nexus of Whey Proteins, Gut Dysbiosis, and Colonic Health

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
Whey proteins possess antimicrobial and prebiotic properties that modulate gut microbiota by promoting beneficial bacteria like Bifidobacterium while suppressing pathogens. This modulation enhances short‐chain fatty acid production and strengthens intestinal barrier integrity, potentially alleviating dysbiosis‐related conditions such as colitis and ...

Ameliorative Effects of Aerobic Exercise Combined With Lycium barbarum Polysaccharide‐Mediated Gut Microbiota Remodeling on Glycolipid Abnormalities in Type 2 Diabetic Rats

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
This schematic illustrates the protective effects of aerobic exercise and Lycium barbarum polysaccharide in a rat model of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which was induced by high‐fat/high‐sugar feeding and streptozotocin (STZ) injection. Both interventions target the gut microbiota to promote short‐chain fatty acid production, thereby regulating ...
