Opening closed inward rectifier potassium channel doors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Inwardly rectifying potassium (KIR) channels are essential regulators of membrane potential in excitable and non‐excitable tissues. Although KIR channels exhibit a biophysical preference for potassium influx due to voltage‐dependent block of outward current by polyamines and Mg2+, under physiological conditions, they predominantly mediate K+ efflux ...

Maternal anorexia nervosa and risk of mental and neurodevelopmental morbidity in offspring

open access: yesChild and Adolescent Mental Health, EarlyView.
Background Anorexia nervosa has the potential to affect fetal neurodevelopment. We examined the association between maternal anorexia nervosa and mental, substance‐related, and neurodevelopmental morbidity in offspring. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 1,269,370 children in Quebec, Canada, between 2006 and 2022.

Expectations and Concerns of Adoptive Families of Children With Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

open access: yesChild &Family Social Work, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is considered a condition that persists throughout life in people who have been exposed to alcohol during the gestation period. During the different stages of their lives, individuals with FASD face different challenges and adversities that—without the right resources and strategies—can contribute to ...

Caregivers' perspectives of support needs for adolescents with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder

open access: yesChildren &Society, EarlyView.
Abstract Research focused on fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is often deficit‐focused, limiting a holistic understanding of individuals' support needs. Families of adolescents with FASD also struggle to access appropriate services. Using semi‐structured interviews, the current study explored the perspectives of seven caregivers of adolescents ...

Gestational Melatonin Supplementation Attenuates Maternal Sleep Deprivation‐Induced Steatohepatitis Susceptibility in Offspring

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Maternal SD during pregnancy enhances the development of diet‐induced NASH in adult offspring of both sexes through an NR4A3‐dependent mechanism, characterised by heightened inflammation and increased apoptosis. Maternal melatonin supplementation effectively alleviates this increased susceptibility to NASH in offspring.

LPC18:0 Secreted by Exogenous Neural Stem Cells Potentiates Neurogenesis and Functional Recovery via GPR55‐Mediated Signalling in Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
LPC18:0 secreted by exogenous neural stem cells potentiates neurogenesis via the GPR55/AKT/GSK3β signalling axis, which ultimately promotes spinal cord injury recovery. ABSTRACT Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating condition with limited therapeutic options. Although neural stem cell (NSC) transplantation shows regenerative potential, its efficacy

Involvement in daily life activities from the perspectives of children and young people with childhood‐onset disabilities: A scoping review

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
This scoping review aimed to understand the construct ‘involvement’ in daily life activities from the perspective of children and young people with childhood‐onset disabilities. We identified six conceptual ideas, including a continuum of inner dedication or investment in‐the‐moment, and five others reflecting how children and young people process ...
