The Role of Genes and Environment on Fetal Growth

open access: yes, 2014
Fetal growth is influenced by the in utero environment and genetic factors inherited from both parents. Poor fetal growth leading to low birth weight is associated with insulin resistance and type-2 diabetes in later life.

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

The effects of asymmetric and symmetric fetal growth restriction on human capital development

open access: yes
This paper explores the causal pathway by which poor fetal health translates into reducing educational attainment and earnings as an adult. Using insights from the medical literature, I decompose low birth weight infants into two distinct subtypes: a ...

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Effect of mindfulness group therapy on maternal psychological distress and perinatal outcomes in twin pregnancy: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry
PurposePsychosocial stress, depression, and anxiety are prevalent during pregnancy and can be associated with adverse birth outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an online Mindfulness Group Therapy (MGT) program in improving ...

Fetal Origins, Childhood Development, and Famine: A Bibliography and Literature Review [PDF]

open access: yes
The human costs of famines outlast the famines themselves. An increasing body of research points to their adverse long-run consequences for those born or in utero during them.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Association between Maternal Midterm eGFR and Newborn Birth Weight

open access: yesKidney360
Key Points. Lower maternal midterm eGFR was independently associated with increased risks of low birth weight and small for gestational age. Adding eGFR to conventional risk models improved prediction of adverse birth outcomes, highlighting its value as ...
