Passive fetal heart rate monitoring apparatus and method with enhanced fetal heart beat discrimination [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
An apparatus for acquiring signals emitted by a fetus, identifying fetal heart beats and determining a fetal heart rate. Multiple sensor signals are outputted by a passive fetal heart rate monitoring sensor.

Reliability of Early Fetal Echocardiography for Congenital Heart Disease Detection: A Preliminary Experience and Outcome Analysis of 102 Fetuses to Demonstrate the Value of a Clinical Flow-Chart Designed for At-Risk Pregnancy Management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Early fetal echocardiography (EFEC) is a fetal cardiac ultrasound analysis performed between the 12th and 16th week of pregnancy (compared with the usual 18-22 weeks).

Evaluation and modification of tumor cell isolation techniques from malignant effusions for rapid drug sensitivity testing

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐small cell lung cancer targeted treatment is limited to a few known genetic alterations, with few alternatives in advanced treatment lines. To direct treatment decisions by drug sensitivity testing (DST), this study compared several methods for tumor cell isolation from malignant effusions, pointing to repeated CD45+ cell depletion for effective ...

HDlive of the Fetal Heart [PDF]

open access: yesDonald School Journal of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2014
ABSTRACT We present the latest HDlive echocardiographic studies on the fetal heart using spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC). Fetal HDlive echocardiography with the use of new skin-like colors provides sonographers and physicians with a natural and anatomically realistic appearance of the fetal heart.

Mathematical tools for identifying the fetal response to physical exercise during pregnancy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In the applied mathematics literature there exist a significant number of tools that can reveal the interaction between mother and fetus during rest and also during and after exercise.

Targeting of PTP4A3 overexpression sensitises HGSOC cells towards chemotherapeutic drugs

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In HGSOC with normal KRAS expression, high PTP4A3 expression regulates autophagy activation. Conversely, in HGSOC with high KRAS expression, KRAS dictates autophagy control, and PTP4A3 is not required. When high PTP4A3 expression is inhibited, HGSOC cells are preferentially sensitised towards DNA‐damaging agents.

Olaparib synergy screen reveals Exemestane induces replication stress in triple‐negative breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Screening 166 FDA‐approved anticancer drugs identifies the aromatase inhibitor Exemestane as a synergistic partner of PARP inhibitor Olaparib in BRCA‐proficient triple‐negative breast cancer. Exemestane induces ROS‐mediated replication stress, enhancing DNA damage and apoptosis alongside Olaparib.

Neurotoxic amyloid β‐peptide and tau produce cytokine‐like effects on PMCA in glioblastoma cell lines, enhancing its activity and isoforms expression

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Two biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease, amyloid β‐peptide (Aβ) and tau, induce the transformation of U‐251 and other glioblastoma cell lines into neurotoxic A1‐like reactive astrocytes. This transformation is produced by cytokines and is followed by upregulation of PMCA activity and isoform expression, and is closely associated with inflammation, as ...

Development of Helical Myofiber Tracts in the Human Fetal Heart: Analysis of Myocardial Fiber Formation in the Left Ventricle From the Late Human Embryonic Period Using Diffusion Tensor Magnetic Resonance Imaging

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2020
Background Detection of the fiber orientation pattern of the myocardium using diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging lags ≈12 weeks of gestational age (WGA) behind fetal myocardial remodeling with invasion by the developing coronary vasculature (8 ...
