Acute Fetal Hypoxia/Acidosis

2016
Fetal hypoxia refers to the condition in which there is decreased oxygen concentration in fetal tissues, and this is insufficient to maintain normal cell energy production by way of aerobic metabolism. Oxygen is supplied to fetal tissues via a long pathway that involves the maternal respiratory system, maternal circulation, gas exchange at the placenta

Adrenomedullin expression during hypoxia in fetal sheep

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 2005
AbstractAim:  We asked how adrenomedullin (AM), a vasodilator peptide, was distributed in fetal sheep organs and whether expression of AM would be upregulated in response to moderate acute fetal hypoxia in vivo. Methods:  In four sheep at day 126–130 of gestation, nitrogen was added to the inspired air by tracheal infusion to reduce fetal arterial ...

Placental Immaturity, Endocardial Fibroelastosis and Fetal Hypoxia

Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 2009
We describe a term newborn who, after a normal gestational course, presented at birth with absent cardiac activity and no spontaneous breathing. Death occurred within 30 h. Autopsy revealed placental villous immaturity, multiple acute hypoxic lesions, but also chronic hypoxic lesions like endocardial fibroelastosis.

Intrapartum Fetal Hypoxia and Biochemical Markers

Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1998
Intrapartum fetal hypoxia is a rare event, although fetal intrapartum surveillance is discussed as a subject of major importance. This is mainly because of consequences of fetal hypoxia that may lead to cerebral palsy. A fetus suffering from hypoxia initially compensates by producing energy through anaerobic metabolism. At some stage, the fetus becomes

Maternal smoking causes fetal hypoxia: Experimental evidence

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1982
Cigarette smoking during pregnancy has been related to poor perinatal outcome. To investigate the changes in maternal and fetal arterial blood gases associated with smoking, five chronically catheterized pregnant rhesus monkeys were exposed to standard cigarette smoking (N = 5) and nicotine-free herbal cigarette smoke (N = 3).

Fetal and neonatal hypoxia.

Padiatrie und Padologie, 1982
Fetal and neonatal hypoxia is viewed as one of the major causes of the developmental disturbances of the brain. Shortterm intranatal hypoxia and its difference from antenatal fetal hypoxia are also considered. The combination of ante- and intranatal hypoxia worsens the prognosis considerably.

[Maternal diabetes and fetal hypoxia].

Duodecim; laaketieteellinen aikakauskirja, 2013
Perinatal mortality has not decreased in type 1 diabetic pregnancies during the last 30 years. Fetal deaths are five times and neonatal deaths three times higher compared with the general population. Chronic intrauterine hypoxia caused by maternal diabetes is the most likely cause of stillbirths during the last weeks of pregnancy.

MATERNAL SICKLE CELL TRAIT AND FETAL HYPOXIA

American Journal of Perinatology, 2000
Patients with sickle cell trait (SCT) usually run a benign course. But they may develop vaso-occlusive crisis, which may lead to hypoxia. During these episodes, pregnant women with SCT may effect the developing fetus. This report describes an interesting finding of subtle degree of fetal hypoxia associated with maternal SCT.

Cerebral Palsy and Fetal Hypoxia

1993
Little, in 18621, stressed the association of abnormal parturition, difficult labor, premature labor, and asphyxia with cerebral palsy.
