Theoretical investigation of the more suitable rare earth to achieve high gain in waveguide based on silica containing silicon nanograins doped with either Nd3+ or Er3+ ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present a comparative study of the gain achievement in a waveguide whose active layer is constituted by a silica matrix containing silicon nanograins acting as sensitizer of either neodymium ions (Nd3+) or erbium ions (Er3+).

Novel reactive molten core fabrication employing in-situ metal oxidation: Erbium-doped intrinsically low Brillouin scattering optical fiber

open access: yesOptical Materials: X, 2019
Reported here is an erbium-doped, few-mode, intrinsically low Brillouin gain optical fiber fabricated using a novel reactive molten core (rMC) process involving in-situ metal oxidation.

Design of Radiation-Hardened Rare-Earth Doped Amplifiers Through a Coupled Experiment/Simulation Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013

Inhomogeneous Gain Saturation in EDF: Experiment and Modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers can present holes in spectral gain in Wavelength Division Multiplexing operation. The origin of this inhomogeneous saturation behavior is still a subject of controversy.

The Impact of Fiber Core Ellipticity and Modal Coherency on Few Moded Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers [PDF]

open access: yes39th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC 2013), 2013
We numerically demonstrate that the few moded erbium doped fiber amplifier models based on linearly polarized and vector modes are equivalent when the fiber core exhibits slight ellipticity and the signals in the guided modes are incoherent. These conditions are fulfilled in a practical mode division multiplexed system.

Co-axial dual-core resonant leaky fibre for optical amplifiers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present a co-axial dual-core resonant leaky optical fibre design, in which the outer core is made highly leaky. A suitable choice of parameters can enable us to resonantly couple power from the inner core to the outer core. In a large-core fibre, such

Electrospun amplified fiber optics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A lot of research is focused on all-optical signal processing, aiming to obtain effective alternatives to existing data transmission platforms. Amplification of light in fiber optics, such as in Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, is especially important for ...

Erbium-doped nanoparticles in silica-based optical fibres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Developing of new rare-earth (RE)-doped optical fibres for power amplifiers and lasers requires continuous improvements in the fibre spectroscopic properties (like shape and width of the gain curve, optical quantum efficiency, resistance to spectral hole

Efficient large-scale multiplexing of fiber Bragg grating and fiber Fabry-Perot sensors for structural health monitoring applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Fiber Bragg gratings have been demonstrated as a versatile sensor for structural health monitoring. We present an efficient and cost effective multiplexing method for fiber Bragg grating and fiber Fabry-Perot sensors based on a broadband mode-locked ...
