Few-Mode Distributed Optical Fiber Sensors

Advanced Photonics 2015, 2015
We present a single-end few-mode-fiber-based distributed sensing system that allows simultaneous temperature and strain measurement by BOTDR and heterodyne detection. The performance is optimized by exploiting modal profile and doping concentration.

Few-Mode Energy-Managed Soliton Fiber Laser

2025 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC)
We present an all-anomalous mode-locked laser architecture combining a few-mode gain fiber with single-mode passive fibers. This hybrid fiber laser generates high-energy pulses whose features are controlled by an intracavity spectral filter. Using a 1.7-nm filter bandwidth, the laser delivers 2.5-ps pulses of 39-nJ energy and 15.6-kW peak power ...

Analog Transmission over Few-Mode Fibers

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2016
Few-mode fibers can increase optical power throughput, arguably the most important parameter that determines the RF gain, noise figure and dynamic range of long-distance analog fiber-optic links.

Few-Mode Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifier

Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013
A few-mode fiber with a central depressed index region is designed for few-mode fiber parametric amplification. Such a design allows the zero dispersion wavelengths of both the LP01 and the LP11 modes shifted to the center of the C band. High gain and large bandwidth parametric amplification is demonstrate for both the LP01 and the LP11 modes in a ...

Coherent radio-over-few-mode-fiber

2017 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Pacific Rim (CLEO-PR), 2017
W-band coherent radio-over-few-mode-fiber transmission system is presented, featuring an optical/wireless converged MIMO DSP. Power fading of radio signals incurred by mode coupling-induced crosstalk and its mitigation technique by the mode assignment and filtering are studied.

Spatial Mode Division Multiplexing of Few Mode Fiber

European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication, 2012
The independent excitation and detection of spatial modes in few-mode fiber networks presents major challenges. This paper presents novel spatial mode-division-multiplexing techniques based on planar couplers and asymmetric Y-junctions. These developments may play a role in future high-capacity few-mode fiber telecommunications.

Optical fiber curvature sensor based on few mode fiber

Optik, 2014
Abstract An optical fiber curvature sensor based on interference between LP 01 –LP 02 modes of a circularly symmetric few mode fiber (FMF) is presented. The device consists of two single-mode fiber and a 10-cm FMF. The two single-mode fiber is offset-spliced to each end of the FMF.

Fiber Bragg grating inscription in few-mode highly birefringent microstructured fiber

Optics Letters, 2013
In this Letter, we present the technology of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) inscription in highly birefringent (HB) few-mode microstructured fibers (MSFs) with two different (nanosecond and femtosecond) lasers in a Talbot interferometer setup. The spectral characteristics of FBGs written in the core region of the investigated fiber, with particular modes ...
