Novel Optical Fibers for High-Capacity Transmission System

open access: yesDianxin kexue, 2014
Novel optical fibers for increasing capacity for transmission system was discussed. For conventional fibers for long haul transmission, because transmission impairments such as chromatic dispersion,polarization-mode dispersion can be perfectly compensated ...

Hole-Assisted Graded-Index Four-LP-Mode Fiber With Low Differential Mode Group Delay Over C+L Band

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2016
In this paper, in order to achieve low differential mode group delay (DMGD) over the C+L band, we propose the hole-assisted graded-index few mode fiber (FMF) design supporting four nondegenerated linear polarized (LP) modes for a mode division ...

Microstructured cladding elements to enhance performance and flexibility of large mode area leakage channel fibers

open access: yes
Large mode area fibers are imperative for scaling up the average power of fiber lasers. Single-mode behavior and low FM loss are the crucial functionalities for these fibers.

Large-effective-area uncoupled few-mode multi-core fiber [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
Characteristics of few-mode multi-core fiber (FM-MCF) were numerically analyzed and experimentally confirmed. The cores of FM-MCF were designed to support transmission of LP(01) and LP(11) modes from the point of bending loss of LP(11) and LP(21) modes. Inter-core crosstalk between LP(11) mode was calculated to determine core pitch of fibers.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Photon-Pair Sources Based on Intermodal Four-Wave Mixing in Few-Mode Fibers

open access: yesFibers, 2018
Four-wave mixing in optical fibers has been proven to have many applications within processing of classical optical signals. In addition, recent developments in multimode fibers have made it possible to achieve the necessary phase-matching for efficient ...

The monitoring system for the aerogel Cherenkov counter of the BELLE detector [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We report on a design and performances of a monitoring system developed for the aerogel Cherenkov counters (ACC) of the BELLE detector. The system consists of blue LEDs, a diffuser box, and optical distributors which distribute the LED light to the ACC ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Birefringence and polarisation mode-dispersion in spun single-mode fibres

open access: yes, 1981
A theoretical and experimental analysis of the polarization properties of twisted single-mode fibers is presented. It is shown that whereas a conventionally twisted fiber possesses considerable optical rotation, a fiber which has a permanent twist ...
