Detecting Neutral Atoms on an Atom Chip [PDF]
Detecting single atoms (qubits) is a key requirement for implementing quantum information processing on an atom chip. The detector should ideally be integrated on the chip.

Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Damage-free single-mode transmission of deep-UV light in hollow-core PCF
Transmission of UV light with high beam quality and pointing stability is desirable for many experiments in atomic, molecular and optical physics. In particular, laser cooling and coherent manipulation of trapped ions with transitions in the UV require ...

We report a systematic investigation on the mode-resolved nonlinear absorption characteristics of the few-mode fiber-multimode fiber-few-mode fiber (FMF) structure. Firstly, the transmission formulas of the FMF structure are derived, demonstrating that the transmission is mode-dependent.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Wavelength-to-time mapping (WTM)—stretching ultrashort optical pulses in a dispersive medium such that the instantaneous frequency becomes time-dependent—is usually performed using a single-mode fiber.

Comparative study of the effective single mode operational bandwidth in sub-wavelength optical wires and conventional single-mode fibers [PDF]
We present the first experimental comparison of effective single mode operation bandwidth in sub-wavelength optical wires (SOWs) and conventional single-mode fibers (SMFs).

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Robust low loss splicing of hollow core photonic bandgap fiber to itself [PDF]
Robust, low loss (0.16dB) splicing of hollow core photonic band gap fiber to itself is presented. Modal content is negligibly affected by splicing, enabling penalty-free 40Gbit/s data transmission over > 200m of spliced ...
