Use of Free Flaps in the Reconstruction of the Ventral Skull Base: A Systematic Literature Review

open access: yesHead &Neck, Volume 48, Issue 8, Page 2261-2270, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Reconstruction of the ventral skull base represents a challenge in head and neck surgery. When local or regional flaps are insufficient, microvascular free flaps offer a reliable reconstructive option. Methods A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines to identify studies on ventral skull base ...

Comparing Fibula and Osteocutaneous Radial Forearm Free Flaps: A 20‐Year Retrospective Review

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 11, Issue 4, August 2026.
We compared the reconstructive outcomes of defects rehabilitated with fibula or OCRFFFs with a retrospective chart review from 20 years of data. Of our sample size of 52 patients, we found that OCRFFFs provide reconstruction of composite defects with significantly shorter operative times compared to fibula flaps; post‐operative flap survival and ...

Precision Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy for Ultra‐Central NSCLC: Tailored Margins Reduce Toxicity Without Compromising Tumor Control

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
A tailored non‐uniform PTV strategy (including PTVcrop and PTV_high/PTV_low) was used in SBRT for ultra‐central NSCLC to meet stringent OAR constraints. Notably, this SBRT strategy achieved favorable clinical outcomes, with an 84.6% 3‐year local control rate, a median PFS of 42.9 months. Additionally, treatment‐related toxicity was mild, with only 1.5%

Comparing the Applicability of State‐Of‐The‐Art Photopolymer Injection Molds Printed by Multi‐Material Jetting and High‐Performance Digital Light Processing

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, Volume 66, Issue 8, Page 5752-5766, August 2026.
The workflow of comparing state‐of‐the‐art photopolymers in rapid tooling. ABSTRACT Additive manufacturing (AM) introduced the concept of layer‐by‐layer manufacturing, which allows the fast and direct production of parts. Additive technologies are also hybridized with conventional polymer processing technologies.

Experimental and Numerical Thermo‐Mechanical Characterization of Polylactic Acid Fabricated by Fused Filament Fabrication

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, Volume 66, Issue 8, Page 5794-5809, August 2026.
Experimental and numerical framework for characterizing the thermomechanical response of polylactic acid fabricated by fused filament fabrication. ABSTRACT This study investigates the thermomechanical response of polylactic acid (PLA) specimens fabricated by fused filament fabrication (FFF) at two nozzle temperatures (190°C and 230°C), while mechanical
