Rapid characterization of the ultraviolet induced fiber Bragg grating complex coupling coefficient as a function of irradiance and exposure time [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report the application of optical frequency domain reflectometry and a discrete-layer-peeling inverse scattering algorithm to the spatial characterization of the UV induced complex coupling coefficient during fiber Bragg grating growth.

Regeneration of tilted fiber Bragg gratings

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2014
The regeneration of Tilted Fiber Bragg Gratings photowritten in a singlemode SMF-28e fiber is investigated. Three tilted FBGs, with respectively 0°, 4° and 8° external tilt angles are annealed according to a conventional high temperature regeneration protocol.

Intrinsic Mechanical Parameters and their Characterization in Solid‐State Lithium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 15, Issue 11, March 18, 2025.
This review focuses on the intrinsic mechanical parameters and their associated characterization in solid‐state batteries. The physical significance of mechanics parameters is introduced with exhaustive classifications by elastic, plastic deformations and fracture in bulk, adhesion, friction at interfaces, and mechanical fatigue in cells ...

Dual Temperature and Strain Measurement with the Combined Fluorescence Lifetime and Bragg Wavelength Shift Approach in Doped Optical Fiber

open access: yes
We have constructed fiber-optic sensors to measure temperature and strain by combining the properties of fiber Bragg gratings with the fluorescent lifetimes of various doped fibers.

Investigation Into the Electrochemical Performance of Micron‐ and Nanosized Tin in Diglyme and Carbonate Electrolytes in Sodium Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This study compares Sn particles of different sizes in NIBs using carbonate‐ and diglyme‐based electrolytes. Diglyme electrolytes enable stable cycling despite large volume changes, while carbonate electrolytes degrade rapidly, especially with nanoparticles.

Manufacture of Tapered Fibers and FBG Writing

open access: yesJournal of Microwaves, Optoelectronics and Electromagnetic Applications
This article discusses procedures for production of tapered fibers in different diameters (tapers) and Bragg gratings writing (tFBG) in such fibers. The reflection spectra in different tFBGs are compared with a FBG written in standard single-mode fiber ...

Versatile Standing Wave Generation Between Arbitrarily Oriented Surfaces Using Acoustic Metasurface Deflectors and Retroreflectors

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
A novel method for generating versatile standing wave fields using an acoustic metasurface deflector and retroreflector is introduced. By overcoming traditional constraints of parallel surfaces, the approach enables customizable wave patterns and enhances applications in particle manipulation.

Skin‐Conformal Myography for Real‐Time Hand Tracking Using a Laser‐Induced Graphene Strain Sensor Array

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
A skin‐conformal wearable device based on laser‐induced graphene is developed for continuous strain measurement across the circumference of the forearm for gesture recognition and hand‐tracking applications. Post material optimization, the strain sensor array is integrated with a wearable wireless readout circuit for real‐time control of a robotic arm,
