Functionalized optical fibers for non-linear optics

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference 2016, 2016
The state of the art of functionalized optical fibers will be reviewed. The discussion will include, but not be limited to, semiconductor optical fibers and fibers that have been integrated with low-dimensional materials.

On the soliton spectral efficiency in non-linear optical fibers

2016 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2016
Optical fiber communications can be modeled using the non-linear Schrodinger equation, which is integrable. In this paper we show how integrability can be exploited to communicate using multisoliton pulses. Starting with a white Gaussian input signal, we use the known distributions of eigenvalues and scattering data to derive an analytical expression ...

Modeling of non-linear crosstalk in optical fiber

2009 International Conference on Emerging Trends in Electronic and Photonic Devices & Systems, 2009
This article is intended to provide a new method for modeling of nonlinear crosstalk in optical communication system. It is necessary for the optical link designer to understand the transmission impairment due to fiber nonlinearity for efficient link design.

Modeling the non-linear index of optical fibers

OFC/NFOEC Technical Digest. Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2005., 2005
We propose and validate experimentally a simple model that allows us to calculate the nonlinear index, n/sub 2/, of any fiber type. Single-mode and higher-order-mode dispersion-compensating fibers (DCF) are investigated and n/sub 2/ dependence on chromatic dispersion is analyzed.

Non-linear optical properties of carbon nanotube-coated optical fiber gratings

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference, 2017
In this paper, we fully investigate a nonlinear device based on a tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG) coated with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). We found that the non-linear optical properties were significantly effective in 6 degree tilted fiber Bragg grating and ∼1.3um thickness. The signal noise to ratio (SNR) of the FWM is up to 10.11dB.

Optical fibers coated with non-linear Langmuir-Blodgett films

Thin Solid Films, 1988
Abstract We report second harmonic generation (SHG) in structures composed of optical fiber cores coated with Langmuir-Blodgett non-linear films. Such structures may serve as attractive alternatives to currently available coated slab non-linear waveguides.

Optical switching using optical Kerr non-linear effect on photonic crystal fiber

2016 International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication (ICSC), 2016
This paper describes the results of the investigation of nonlinear propagation of short optical pulses in a photonic crystal fibers. It has been observed that nonlinear intensity-dependent effect can be used to determine the transmission and rejection of propagating pulses. The optical switching is achieved using Kerr nonlinear effect to shift the band

Polarization rotation in nonlinear bimodal optical fibers

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1989
The current interest in lightwave polarization developement and nonlinear optics has centred on birefringent single-mode fibers [1]. We consider circular core fibers supporting second order modes. In the linear case a natural polarization rotation phenomenon occurs [2] and we describe its development as nonlinear effects become important.

Assorted non-linear optics in microchannel waveguides of photonic-crystal fibers

Optics Communications, 2005
Unamplified 50-fs Ti:sapphire laser pulses are used to demonstrate physically different scenarios of non-linear-optical spectral transformations in the normal and anomalous dispersion regions in microchannel waveguides off the central core in photonic-crystal fibers.
