Fiber crystal growth from the melt for non-linear optical applications
Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2012During several years, we have been involved in the growth and characterization of non-linear optical crystals by the two most common techniques for growing single-crystal fibers from the melt: laser-heated pedestal growth and micro-pulling down. Their specific features are presented in this study and their versatility is demonstrated through two ...

Impact of fiber non-linearities in transmission across geographical optical networks
Conference Proceedings LEOS'96 9th Annual Meeting IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2002The introduction of a transparent optical level in a very large area transport network requires transmission through optical paths thousands of kilometers long. The Kerr effect in such networks causes nonlinear crosstalk due to Four-Wave Mixing (EWM) among channels, that is a quite detrimental, limiting the achievable spectral efficiency of the WDM ...

Fiber Non-linear Effects in Multiple-wavelengths Optical CDMA Systems
IETE Technical Review, 2013AbstractMulti-wavelength Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) systems suffer from fiber impairments including non-linear effects (NLE), especially when the number of wavelengths and input power level increase. In this paper, a review of NLE, including self-phase modulation, cross-phase modulation, four wave mixing (FWM), stimulated Brillouin ...

Second-order non-linear optical effects in BiB3O6 glass fibers
Optical Materials, 2004Abstract Photo-induced second harmonic generation was found in BiB3O6 (BiBO) glass fibers with diameters 0.7–1.9 mm. We have revealed that maximum of the output second-order optical susceptibility is achieved for the fibers having diameters about 1.1 mm.

Compensation of fiber non linear impairments using Optical Back Propagation
2015 International Conference on Microwave, Optical and Communication Engineering (ICMOCE), 2015The paper presents analysis of Kerr nonlinear impairments present in long haul Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) links and their compensation. A framework is proposed for transmission impairments compensation in optical domain by Optical Back Propagation (OBP) technique.

Non-linear optical phenomena in contact fiber laser-photocoagulation of myocardium
Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 1992The rise time of epicardial temperatures on the left ventricular free wall during endocardial transcatbeter delivery of Nd:YAG laser energy, recorded by thermography has sparked interest in anomalous optical phenomena. Transmission measurements on whole blocks of myocardium showed a decrease in the attenuation coefficient at high power densities.

Non Linear Effects For Light Generation And Amplification In Optical Fibers.
SPIE Proceedings, 1990We present a review of the main non-linear effects for light generation and amplification in optical fibers. Stimulated Raman Scattering and its applications to optical amplication, Four-Photon Mixing, Brillouin Scattering and Harmonic Generation are described. We emphasize the advantages and drawbacks of using optical fibers for the development of non-

Analysis and Reduction of Fiber Non-linearity in Optical Communication System
2019In this paper, the effect of nonlinearity has been investigated with different techniques such as non-return-to-zero (NRZ), return-to-zero (RZ), duo-binary return-to-zero (DRZ), and modified duo-binary return-to-zero (MDRZ) modulations. We have explored the fiber nonlinearities by taking dispersion of single-mode optical fiber at 2.5 Gbps communication

In a long-haul optical fiber transmission system which uses a high power input and a long distance transmission, disturbances can occur during the propagation process. These disturbances can be categorized into linear and non-linear effects which are affected by the intensity dependence of fiber optic refractive index n.
