Liquid-core fiber optics-transmission and non-linear effects

ICALEO '86: The Changing Frontiers of Optical Techniques for Industrial Measurement and Control, 1986
We survey previous research on liquid-core fiber optics. These waveguides exhibit a number of interesting characteristics which are of use to sensing, spectroscopy, and communications. We discuss liquid-core optical fibers in regard to applications involving high-peak-power transmission of laser light.

Optical switching using optical Kerr non-linear effect on photonic crystal fiber

2016 International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication (ICSC), 2016
This paper describes the results of the investigation of nonlinear propagation of short optical pulses in a photonic crystal fibers. It has been observed that nonlinear intensity-dependent effect can be used to determine the transmission and rejection of propagating pulses. The optical switching is achieved using Kerr nonlinear effect to shift the band

On the soliton spectral efficiency in non-linear optical fibers

2016 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2016
Optical fiber communications can be modeled using the non-linear Schrodinger equation, which is integrable. In this paper we show how integrability can be exploited to communicate using multisoliton pulses. Starting with a white Gaussian input signal, we use the known distributions of eigenvalues and scattering data to derive an analytical expression ...

Fiber Non-linear Effects in Multiple-wavelengths Optical CDMA Systems

IETE Technical Review, 2013
AbstractMulti-wavelength Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) systems suffer from fiber impairments including non-linear effects (NLE), especially when the number of wavelengths and input power level increase. In this paper, a review of NLE, including self-phase modulation, cross-phase modulation, four wave mixing (FWM), stimulated Brillouin ...

Second-order non-linear optical effects in BiB3O6 glass fibers

Optical Materials, 2004
Abstract Photo-induced second harmonic generation was found in BiB3O6 (BiBO) glass fibers with diameters 0.7–1.9 mm. We have revealed that maximum of the output second-order optical susceptibility is achieved for the fibers having diameters about 1.1 mm.

Compensation of fiber non linear impairments using Optical Back Propagation

2015 International Conference on Microwave, Optical and Communication Engineering (ICMOCE), 2015
The paper presents analysis of Kerr nonlinear impairments present in long haul Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) links and their compensation. A framework is proposed for transmission impairments compensation in optical domain by Optical Back Propagation (OBP) technique.

Polarization rotation in nonlinear bimodal optical fibers

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1989
The current interest in lightwave polarization developement and nonlinear optics has centred on birefringent single-mode fibers [1]. We consider circular core fibers supporting second order modes. In the linear case a natural polarization rotation phenomenon occurs [2] and we describe its development as nonlinear effects become important.

Assorted non-linear optics in microchannel waveguides of photonic-crystal fibers

Optics Communications, 2005
Unamplified 50-fs Ti:sapphire laser pulses are used to demonstrate physically different scenarios of non-linear-optical spectral transformations in the normal and anomalous dispersion regions in microchannel waveguides off the central core in photonic-crystal fibers.

Fiber crystal growth from the melt for non-linear optical applications

Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2012
During several years, we have been involved in the growth and characterization of non-linear optical crystals by the two most common techniques for growing single-crystal fibers from the melt: laser-heated pedestal growth and micro-pulling down. Their specific features are presented in this study and their versatility is demonstrated through two ...
