Phase-stable source of polarization-entangled photons in a linear double-pass configuration [PDF]
We demonstrate a compact, robust, and highly efficient source of polarization-entangled photons, based on linear bi-directional down-conversion in a novel 'folded sandwich' configuration.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

How complicated must an optical component be?
We analyze how complicated a linear optical component has to be if it is to perform one of a range of functions. Specifically, we devise an approach to evaluating the number of real parameters that must be specified in the device design or fabrication ...

Quantum communication, and indeed quantum information in general, has changed the way we think about quantum physics. In 1984 and 1991, the first protocol for quantum cryptography and the first application of quantum non-locality, respectively, attracted

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Optical Random Riemann Waves in Integrable Turbulence [PDF]
We examine integrable turbulence (IT) in the framework of the defocusing cubic one-dimensional nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equation. This is done theoretically and experimentally, by realizing an optical fiber experiment in which the defocusing Kerr ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

HERMITIAN SYMMETRY BASED FIBER NON-LINEARITY COMPENSATION IN OPTICAL OFDM NETWORKS
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a modulation technique which is now used in most new and emerging broadband wired and wireless communication systems such as standard 802.11a/b/g/n, Digital Video Broad casting Television (DVB-TV), and Long Term Evolution (LTE) in the next mobile generation, due to its capacity in solving the ...

KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...
