Emerging strategies to target metastasis and therapy resistance in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Emerging studies propose new approaches to interfere with melanoma progression. In recognition of melanoma awareness month, at Molecular Oncology, we highlight recently published research articles, focusing on novel therapeutic targets driving metastatic spread and outlining different strategies to overcome resistance to BRAF inhibitors and anti‐PD‐1 ...

Flexible lensless endoscope with a conformationally invariant multi-core fiber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The lensless endoscope represents the ultimate limit in miniaturization of imaging tools: an image can be transmitted through a (multi-mode or multi-core) fiber by numerical or physical inversion of the fiber's pre-measured transmission matrix.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Chromatic-Dispersion Monitor Based on a Differential Phase-Shift Method Using a Kerr Phase-Interrogator

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
We present a novel approach for real-time chromatic-dispersion (CD) monitoring using a Kerr phase-interrogator. CD induces a differential phase shift between two sinusoidal signals carried by two different wavelengths.

Background-free fibre optic Brillouin probe for remote mapping of micromechanics

open access: yes, 2020
Brillouin spectroscopy is a century-old technique that has recently received renewed interest, as modern instrumentation has transformed it into a powerful contactless and label-free probe of micromechanical properties for biomedical applications.

Whole‐Body Pattern of Muscle Degeneration and Progression in Sarcoglycanopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize whole‐body intramuscular fat distribution pattern in patients with sarcoglycanopathies and explore correlations with disease severity, duration and age at onset. Methods Retrospective, cross‐sectional, multicentric study enrolling patients with variants in one of the four sarcoglycan genes who underwent whole‐body ...

Splitting and Motions of Dissipative Soliton Resonance Pulses in Mode-Locked Fiber Lasers

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2019
We numerically investigated the splitting and motions of dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) pulses in an all-normal-dispersion Yb-doped fiber laser mode-locked by a non-linear optical loop mirror.

Brainstem and Cerebellar Volume Loss and Associated Clinical Features in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative ‘tauopathy’ with predominating pathology in the basal ganglia and midbrain. Caudal tau spread frequently implicates the cerebellum; however, the pattern of atrophy remains equivocal.

Methods for Estimation of Optical Fiber Non-Linearity Using Self-Phase Modulation Effect [PDF]

open access: yesLatvian Journal of Physics and Technical Sciences, 2011
Methods for Estimation of Optical Fiber Non-Linearity Using Self-Phase Modulation Effect Due to ever increasing channel density in WDM systems the nonlinear optical effects in fibers become a limiting factor for the high-speed data transmission, which necessitates determination of such important characteristic as the coefficient of optical ...
