Spontaneous emergence of rogue waves in partially coherent waves: a quantitative experimental comparison between hydrodynamics and optics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Rogue waves are extreme and rare fluctuations of the wave field that have been discussed in many physical systems. Their presence substantially influences the statistical properties of an incoherent wave field.

Positive‐Tone Nanolithography of Antimony Trisulfide with Femtosecond Laser Wet‐Etching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A butyldithiocarbamic acid (BDCA) etchant is used to fabricate various micro‐ and nanoscale structures on amorphous antimony trisulfide (a‐Sb2S3) thin film via femtosecond laser etching. Numerical analysis and experimental results elucidate the patterning mechanism on gold (reflective) and quartz (transmissive) substrates.

Spatiotemporally mode-locked soliton fiber laser at 2.8 μm

open access: yesHigh Power Laser Science and Engineering, 2023
Spatiotemporal mode-locking creates great opportunity for pulse energy scaling and nonlinear optics research in fiber. Until now, spatiotemporal mode-locking has only been realized in normal-dispersion dissipative soliton and similariton fiber lasers. In

A proposal for highly tunable optical parametric oscillation in silicon micro-resonators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We propose a novel scheme for continuous-wave pumped optical parametric oscillation (OPO) inside silicon micro-resonators. The proposed scheme not only requires a relative low lasing threshold, but also exhibits extremely broad tunability extending from ...

Three‐dimensional Antimony Sulfide Based Flat Optics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the development of a grayscale electron beam lithography (g‐EBL) method for fabricating antimony trisulfide (Sb2S3) nanostructures with customizable 3D profiles. The refractive index of g‐EBL patterned Sb2S3 is determined based on the synergy of genetic algorithm and transfer matrix method.

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

Nonlinear-dispersive similariton of passive fiber [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2009
Using the spectral-interferometry method for the short pulse complete characterization, we demonstrate the nature and distinctive properties of the similariton generated in single-mode fiber without gain (passive fiber) due to the combined impacts of ...

Bifurcation studies, chaotic pattern, phase diagrams and multiple optical solitons for the (2+1)-dimensional stochastic coupled nonlinear Schrödinger system with multiplicative white noise via Itô calculus

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2023
The stochastic coupled nonlinear Schrödinger systems are very important equations which can be wildly used in the fields of the optical-fiber communications, nonlinear optics, plasma physics, ecological system, statistical mechanics and so on.
