Efficient telecom to visible wavelength conversion in doubly resonant GaP microdisks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Resonant second harmonic generation between 1550 nm and 775 nm with outside efficiency $> 4.4\times10^{-4}\, \text{mW}^{-1}$ is demonstrated in a gallium phosphide microdisk cavity supporting high-$Q$ modes at visible ($Q \sim 10^4$) and infrared ($Q ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Recent progress of pulsed fiber lasers based on transition-metal dichalcogenides and black phosphorus saturable absorbers

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2020
Transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) and black phosphorus (BP) are typical 2D materials with layer-dependent bandgaps, which are emerging as promising saturable absorption materials for pulsed fiber lasers.

Telecom to mid-infrared spanning supercontinuum generation in hydrogenated amorphous silicon waveguides using a Thulium doped fiber laser pump source [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A 1000 nm wide supercontinuum, spanning from 1470 nm in the telecom band to 2470 nm in the mid-infrared is demonstrated in a 800 nm x 220 nm 1 cm long hydrogenated amorphous silicon strip waveguide.

New Solitary Wave Patterns of the Fokas System in Fiber Optics

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
The Fokas system, which models wave dynamics using a single model of fiber optics, is the design under discussion in this study. Different types of solitary wave solutions are obtained by utilizing generalized Kudryashov (GKP) and modified Kudryashov ...

Slight Truncation Changes in Iron Oxide Nanocubes Strongly Affect Their Magnetic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Subtle variations in nanoparticle morphology can lead to significant changes in functional properties. An automated shape‐fitting method captures minor differences in corner truncation between iron oxide nanocubes of similar sizes synthesized under identical conditions, revealing pronounced disparities in their magnetic and hyperthermia behavior ...

Collision of Akhmediev Breathers in Nonlinear Fiber Optics

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2013
We report here a novel fiber-based test bed using tailored spectral shaping of an optical-frequency comb to excite the formation of two Akhmediev breathers that collide during propagation.

On Demand Spatial Beam Self-Focusing in Hexagonal Multicore Fiber

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
Combination of the classical effect of light self-focusing and recently emerged multicore fiber technology offers new opportunities for the spatio-temporal control and manipulation of high-power light radiation. Here, we apply genetic algorithm to design

Raman tailored photonic-crystal-fiber for telecom band photon-pair generation

open access: yes, 2017
We report on the experimental characterization of a novel nonlinear liquid-filled hollow-core photonic-crystal fiber for the generation of photon pairs at telecommunication wavelength through spontaneous four-wave-mixing.

Spatial beam self-cleaning and supercontinuum generation with Yb-doped multimode graded-index fiber taper based on accelerating self-imaging and dissipative landscape [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We experimentally demonstrate spatial beam self-cleaning and supercontinuum generation in a tapered Ytterbium-doped multimode optical fiber with parabolic core refractive index profile when 1064 nm pulsed beams propagate from wider (122 µm) into smaller (
