A general discussion is made of optical fiber video systems from the viewpoint of system design concepts, transmission schemes, etc. Among possible analog CATV systems, the Higashi-Ikoma Project is reviewed as an optical fiber video system application. The essential components and basic technologies required for optical fiber video systems are reviewed.

Optical switch for multimode optical-fiber systems
Optics Letters, 1979A new type of optical switch is constructed of graded-index rod lenses. It is operated mechanically by small electromagnets. This switch is compatible with practical multimode-fiber communication systems. It has many outstanding features, such as low insertion loss (1.3–1.4 dB), low crosstalk ( 2 × 106 times), and small size (40 × 50 × 25 mm3).

Dispersion compensation for optical fiber systems
IEEE Communications Magazine, 1995Much of the currently embedded optical fiber was originally designed for light with a wavelength of 1.3 microns. If this fiber is to be used with tomorrow's optically amplified, high-speed, long span-length lightwave system operating at 1.5 microns, the chromatic dispersion in the fiber must be compensated.

Optical System With Fiber Optical Elements
Optical Engineering, 1981Many reflecting and refracting elements are required in the construction of a conventional optical system with a low f/number. Such a system poses problems in alignment and mechanical stabilty when operating in severe environments over a wide temerature range.
