Interrogation of fibre Bragg gratings with a tilted fibre Bragg grating

Measurement Science and Technology, 2004
A new and efficient interrogation scheme suitable for monitoring the Bragg wavelengths of multiplexed fibre Bragg gratings is presented. The heart of the technique consists of a tilted and chirped fibre Bragg grating placed in front of a photodetector linear array.

A fibre Bragg grating refractometer

Measurement Science and Technology, 2001
An opto-chemical in-fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensor for refractive index measurement in liquids has been developed using fibre side-polishing technology. At a polished site where the fibre cladding has partly been removed, a FBG is exposed to a liquid analyte via evanescent field interaction of the guided fibre mode. The Bragg wavelength of the FBG is

Modulational instability in a fibre and a fibre Bragg grating

Journal of Optics B: Quantum and Semiclassical Optics, 2004
In this review article, we study the influence of cross-phase modulation, higher order nonlinear effects such as self-steepening, self-induced Raman scattering and higher order dispersion effects such as third and fourth order dispersion on cross-phase modulational instability for a highly elliptical birefringent optical fibre, and obtain the ...

Fibre Bragg gratings for temporal spectral astronomy

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
Temporal spectral astronomy or time resolved astronomy is the study of astrophysical phenomena that show spectral variability on very short timescales. These timescales are often too short to be resolved by current astronomical equipment. The lack of detailed observations in this area keeps important theoretical descriptions of astronomical events ...

Fibre Bragg grating sensor for respiratory monitoring

ACOFT/AOS 2006 - Australian Conference on Optical Fibre Technology/Australian Optical Society, 2006
A temperature sensor based on fibre Bragg gratings has been used to monitor human respiration. We discuss the thermodynamic properties of the sensor and present the general performance characteristics of the system.

Hydrostatic pressure sensitivity of standard polymer fibre Bragg gratings and etched polymer fibre Bragg gratings

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
The hydrostatic pressure sensitivity of polymer optical fibre Bragg grating of different diameters is investigated. For this purpose Bragg gratings are inscribed in single-mode polymer fibre and also in etched single-mode polymer fibre. The inherent pressure sensitivity of the grating are experimentally investigated up-to 1MPa by monitoring the change ...

A strain-isolated fibre Bragg grating sensor for temperature compensation of fibre Bragg grating strain sensors

Measurement Science and Technology, 1998
This paper describes a method of isolating a fibre Bragg grating (FBG) from strain. This strain-isolated fibre Bragg grating (SIFBG) was then used to make strain-independent temperature measurements. The SIFBG can then be used to compensate for the temperature cross sensitivity of a FBG strain sensor.

In-fibre Bragg grating sensors

Measurement Science and Technology, 1997
In-fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensors are one of the most exciting developments in the field of optical fibre sensors in recent years. Compared with conventional fibre-optic sensors, FBG sensors have a number of distinguishing advantages. Significant progress has been made in applications to strain and temperature measurements.
