Computational predictions of the tensile properties of electrospun fibre meshes: Effect of fibre diameter and fibre orientation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2008
The mechanical properties of biomaterial scaffolds are crucial for their efficacy in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. At the microscopic scale, the scaffold must be sufficiently rigid to support cell adhesion, spreading, and normal extracellular matrix deposition.

Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

Variation in Ovine KRTAP13-3 and Its Association with Wool Characteristics in Chinese Tan Sheep

open access: yesAnimals
Understanding the genetic factors that influence wool quality is essential for enhancing wool quality and uniformity. This study investigated the KRTAP13-3 gene in Chinese Tan sheep, a breed known for its unique wool characteristics.

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

FHL1 activates myostatin signalling in skeletal muscle and promotes atrophy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, 2015
Myostatin is a TGFβ family ligand that reduces muscle mass. In cancer cells, TGFβ signalling is increased by the protein FHL1. Consequently, FHL1 may promote signalling by myostatin. We therefore tested the ability of FHL1 to regulate myostatin function.

Effect of Nano TiO2 Filler Addition on Mechanical Properties of Bamboo/Polyester Hybrid Composites and Parameters Optimized Using Grey Taguchi Method

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 2022
Exploration has shifted from traditional materials and alloys to composite materials in recent years to develop lightweight, high-effective materials for specific purposes. Natural fibres are less costly, biodegradable, and nonflammable than glass fibres.

The Influence of Peripheral Connexion on the Diameter of Regenerating Nerve Fibres [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 1946
ABSTRACT Stretches of regenerating rabbit’s nerve in which no connexion with the periphery is allowed contain numerous and small nerve fibres. Both cutaneous sensory and motor nerve fibres become large when allowed to reach their endorgans, but the motor fibres attain greater diameters than the cutaneous sensory fibres.
