On the Bearing Strength of Fibre Metal Laminates
Journal of Composite Materials, 1992Published work on mechanically fastened joints in composites has demon strated that the influence of lateral restraint on bearing strength is of paramount impor tance. Delamination in conjunction with buckling is frequently observed if there is a lack of lateral restraint (pin-type loading).

Hydrothermal ageing of fibre metal laminates made of flax fibres
2021In the past two decades, fibre metal laminates (FMLs) have been widely used to manufacture aircraft and aerospace components. FMLs are hybrid composite structures based on thin sheets of metal alloys reinforced by organic matrix composites (Sinmazçelik et al., 2011).

The meaning of threshold fatigue in fibre metal laminates
International Journal of Fatigue, 2009This paper discusses the meaning of threshold fatigue for fibre metal laminates under constant amplitude loading. A few experiments have been performed and the results are discussed in this paper.

An Historic Overview of the Development of Fibre Metal Laminates
Applied Composite Materials, 2003In this paper a brief overview of the history of Fibre Metal Laminates Arall and Glare is given as background information for the other, technical articles in this journal. The story of the development of Fibre Metal Laminates is rather a unique story in the history of aircraft materials: A university laboratory invented, developed and certified an ...

Low-velocity impact on fibre-metal laminates
2014Generating high-energy absorbing FML concepts is challenging because aluminium and composite failure mechanisms are acting concurrently during the impact process. Because the impact process involves energy transformation, an analytical energy balance method was used to assess the contribution of the material constituents in the low-velocity impact ...

Response of fibre metal laminates to blast loading
2011Fibre-metal laminates (FMLs) are hybrid structures comprising interleaved metal sheets and fibre reinforced polymer composites. In this work the performance of fibre metal laminated plates under blast loading is studied numerically. The FML panels are made of alternating layers of aluminium and glass fibre/polypropylene (GFRP) with different number of ...
