Accurate Fibre Orientation Measurement for Carbon Fibre Surfaces

Pattern Recognition, 2013
Carbon- and glass fibre materials exhibit challenging optical properties, in particular highly specular reflectivity. State of the art vision-based sensor systems use diffuse light setups to suppress specular reflections and apply texture analysis to obtain fibre orientations for surface patches. We investigate the reflection behaviour of fibrous ...

Orientational Distribution of Fibres in Sheared Fibre Suspensions

Chinese Physics Letters, 2007
Motion of fibres in sheared fibre suspensions is simulated numerically by using the lattice Boltzmann method. The orientational distributions of the fibres are presented for different Reynolds numbers, Stokes numbers, shear rate and fibre aspect ratio. Some computational results are compared with the experimental data of pipe flow, and the qualitative ...

Orientation of Collagen Fibres in Rat Dentine

Nature, 1967
IT is well known that the dominant part of the organic matrix of dentine is collagen, the fibres of which are preferentially orientated. The accepted view is that the collagen bundles, apart from a narrow layer of “mantle dentine” formed first, lie predominantly in the plane of the mineralizing front, that is approximately parallel to the enamel ...

Study on fibre orientation and fibre content of glass fibre reinforced polymer

Materials Research Innovations, 2014
AbstractFibre reinforced polymer is consisted of matrix and reinforcement, which are the deciding factors of mechanical properties. The fibre orientation is dependent on the parameters of material, such as fibre diameter, length, and interaction between fibres (which is interpreted as fibre content), and moulding factors like moulding closure speed ...

Fibre intersections in a planar randomly oriented fibre composite

Fibre Science and Technology, 1977
The interaction of fibers in a randomly oriented fiber composite is a key factor in determining the mechanical properties of some composites. A theoretical model is presented by means of which values of the mean and the variance of fiber intersections in a planar randomly oriented fiber composite are predicted.

Measurements of fibre orientation in short-fibre-reinforced thermoplastics

Composites Science and Technology, 1991
Abstract A technique is described for accurately measuring the spatial variation of fibre-orientation-distribution averages in injection-moulded plaques of short-fibre-reinforced carbon-fibre/PEEK composites. It is based on measurements of the ellipticity and orientation of the elliptical images of circular fibres meeting a polished surface of a ...

Orientation distribution of fibres in a channel flow of fibre suspension

Chinese Physics, 2005
The orientation and concentration distributions of fibres in laminar and turbulent channel flows are investigated numerically. The obtained results are in good agreement with the experimental data. In the laminar flow regime, more fibres orient to the flow direction as the Reynolds number increases.
