An expression for orientation in cellulose fibres
Acta Crystallographica, 1961AbstractHermans' orientation factor can be evaluated only when the diatropic and paratropic interferences arise from planes which form an orthogonal set. This is only approximately satisfied in case of both cellulose I and cellulose II. In the present communication an exact expression has been derived which can be evaluated from x‐ray measurements ...

Orientation of 3-D Graphite in Carbon Fibres
Nature, 1970CARBON fibres have been produced that have high strength and stiffness and a polycrystalline structure consisting of carbon crystallites oriented in the direction of the fibre axis1,2. Some evidence for recrystallization has been reported for carbon fibres heat treated in a nickel matrix3,4 and in boron5.

The orientation of fibres in an electric field
British Journal of Applied Physics, 1955Fibres dispersed in a liquid are observed to turn into the direction of an applied electric field. The effect is attributed to a difference of conductivity between fibre and liquid or, when both conductivities are very low, to a difference of dielectric constant. It is suggested that the effect might be used in microscopic examination of textiles.

Orientation stretching of polyester fibre
Fibre Chemistry, 1971Orientation stretching of Lavsan fibre on twisting-stretching machines takes place in two stages, the ratio between them depending on the temperature conditions in each zone. The thread tenacity depends mainly on the overall stretching frequency, which remains constant over a fairly wide temperature range for a given fibre.

On Optimum Fibre Orientation in an Annulus
The Aeronautical Journal, 1969The development of carbon fibres which exhibit high strength and stiffness raises many problems in the design of such fibre reinforced structures. One such problem concerns the optimum arrangement of fibres to support a given load system or load envelope, and this has been treated by Harris for planar load envelopes bounded by given values of applied ...

Shear influence on fibre orientation
Rheologica Acta, 2007The purpose of this experimental work was to study the influence of shear close to a solid boundary on the fibre orientation in suspensions with different fibre aspect ratios and concentrations.

Orientation Effects in Short Fibre-Reinforced Elastomers
Volume 9: Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Fluids, 2014The large strain behaviour of a short fibre-reinforced composite is studied through numerical simulations. The reinforcing fibres yield the macroscopic response transversely isotropic which is indeed the case of many reinforcements currently used in composites: short carbon fibres, cellulose whiskers, carbon nanotubes.

Determination of fibre orientations in composites with short fibres
1988The fibre orientation distribution of short SiC-whiskers in an Al-matrix has been determined by neutron diffraction texture measurements and optical microscopy. The orientation distributions have been compared and discrepancies are discussed. Finally, the applicability, accuracy and speed of the two techniques are compared.

Distribution of Fibre Orientations in Paper
Trans. of the IXth Fund. Res. Symp. Cambridge, 1989, 1989During web formation, the difference between the speed of the pulp suspension and that of the wire gives rise to a smear force that orients fibres preferentially along the machine direction . This has been known for a long time. It is less clear, however, haw the distribution of fibre orientations is fly related to the conditions of web formation and ...
