Collagen Fibre Orientation in Bone

1989
Various models have been proposed in the past for the orientation of collagen fibres in bone. These features have been deduced from observations of demineralised bone specimens or implied by examination of thinly ground samples in polarised light. Such techniques cause significant disruption of the bone structure and so we have developed a method which

Microwave Fibre Orientation Sensor

28th European Microwave Conference, 1998, 1998
A new sensor based on a microwave resonator for measuring the fibre orientation in sheets was developed. The device is non-contacting and is suitable for measurements of moving web in paper and board machines. It can also be applied to measure the molecular orientation of plastic films.

Oriented glass ceramic fibre

Nature, 1974
LONGITUDINAL velocity gradients in a flowing system have a powerful orienting influence on macromolecules and have been used to align polyethylene chains immediately before crystallisation1 and from the melt2. Corning 119 SCR is a glass which crystallises to a glass ceramic containing fluorophlogopite (mica) as the principal crystalline phase.

Influence of orientation on polyester fibres

British Polymer Journal, 1977
AbstractThe technological applications and the associated molecular mechanisms of various levels of orientation in polyester fibres are discussed. The inherent birefringence of these fibres is high and therefore the orientation is easily measurable, while their behaviour is very sensitive to small changes in orientation.
