A model for one-dimensional morphoelasticity and its application to fibroblast-populated collagen lattices [PDF]
The mechanical behaviour of solid biological tissues has long been described using models based on classical continuum mechanics. However, the classical continuum theories of elasticity and viscoelasticity cannot easily capture the continual remodelling and associated structural changes of biological tissues.

Background Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) has been hypothesized to play a role in the increased risk of cardiovascular disease in patients with CKD.Methods We identified prospective studies reporting associations between FGF-23 concentration and ...

An Unusual Combination of Neurological Manifestations and Sudden Vision Loss in a Child with Familial Hyperphosphatemic Tumoral Calcinosis [PDF]
Hyperphosphatemia in the absence of renal failure is an unusual occurrence, particularly in children, but is a common primary feature of familial hyperphosphatemic tumor calcinosis.

Gla-rich protein (GRP) as an early and novel marker of vascular calcification and kidney dysfunction in diabetic patients with CKD: a pilot cross-sectional study [PDF]
Vascular calcification (VC) is one of the strongest predictors of cardiovascular risk in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. New diagnostic/prognostic tools are required for early detection of VC allowing interventional strategies.

Molecular and functional profiling unravels targetable vulnerabilities in colorectal cancer
We used whole exome and RNA‐sequencing to profile divergent genomic and transcriptomic landscapes of microsatellite stable (MSS) and microsatellite instable (MSI) colorectal cancer. Alterations were classified using a computational score for integrative cancer variant annotation and prioritization.

Inflammation and functional iron deficiency regulate fibroblast growth factor 23 production
Circulating levels of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) are elevated in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), but the mechanisms are poorly understood. Here we tested whether inflammation and iron deficiency regulate FGF23.

TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

TGF‐β has a complex role in cancer, exhibiting both tumor‐suppressive and tumor‐promoting properties. Using a series of differentiated tumoroids, derived from different stages and mutational background of colorectal cancer patients, we replicate this duality of TGF‐β in vitro. Notably, the atypical but highly aggressive KRASQ22K mutation rendered early‐
