Redox regulation meets metabolism: targeting PRDX2 to prevent hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 3, Page 584-587, March 2026.
PRDX2 acts as a central redox hub linking metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatohepatitis (MASH) to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In normal hepatocytes, PRDX2 maintains redox balance and metabolic homeostasis under oxidative stress. In contrast, during malignant transformation, PRDX2 promotes oncogenic signaling, stemness, and tumor initiation ...

Comparative evaluation of APRI, FIB-4, HFS, and NFS: Scoring tools for liver fibrosis in a Mexican population with MASLD

open access: yesRevista de Gastroenterología de México (English Edition)
Introduction and aim: Liver fibrosis is a complication of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Given the limitations and risks of liver biopsy, examining noninvasive scoring systems that are affordable for the population is ...

Dynamics of Capillaria-hepatica-induced hepatic septal fibrosis in rats

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2010
INTRODUCTION: The pathogenesis of septal hepatic fibrosis, induced in rats by Capillaria hepatica infection, was studied with the aid of a large collection of stored paraffin blocks, representative of the different evolutive phases of fibrosis which ...

Immunological basis of septal fibrosis of the liver in Capillaria hepatica-infected rats

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2003
Rats infected with the helminth Capillaria hepatica regularly develop septal fibrosis of the liver similar to that induced by repeated ip injections of pig serum.

open access: yes, 2008
Objective: to determine whether the product of multiplying age by liver iron concentration (LIC) (fibrosis index; cut-off, 480,000), platelets, transaminases, and ferritin values are related to the risk of high grade fibrosis.

Helminths as architects of trained tolerance: implications for human health

open access: yesClinical &Translational Immunology, Volume 15, Issue 3, 2026.
Abstract Helminths infect nearly 2 billion people worldwide and are a major cause of chronic morbidity in low‐resource regions. Unlike bacterial and viral pathogens that elicit protective memory, helminths actively remodel host immunity to enable their years‐long persistence and reinfection.

Production of septal fibrosis of the liver by means of foreign protein injections into rats

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2003
Similarities and differences in antigenic humoral responses and electrophoretic patterns between Capillaria hepatica and pig-serum were investigated as a contribution to the understanding of hepatic fibrosis induced by the parenteral administration of ...

Hepatotrophic factors reduce hepatic fibrosis in rats Fatores hepatotróficos reduzem a fibrose hepática em ratos

open access: yesArquivos de Gastroenterologia, 2010
CONTEXT: Hepatic fibrosis occurs in response to several aggressive agents and is a predisposing factor in cirrhosis. Hepatotrophic factors were shown to stimulate liver growth and to restore the histological architecture of the liver.

An Exploratory Study on the Pathogenic Role of Faecal Extracellular Vesicles in Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease Progression and in Drug‐Induced Liver Injury

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 3, March 2026.
Fecal extracellular vesicles (fEVs) from DILI patients have a distinct bacterial profile. This study provides evidence that bacterial EVs enter the bloodstream. DILI and MASLD F≥3 fEVs increase the pro‐inflammatory response and hepatocyte steatosis. FEVs from DILI patients enhance the hepatotoxic potential of diclofenac.
