Field‐aligned current distribution in the transition current system [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2004
The interactions of coronal mass ejections with the Earth's magnetosphere are interesting because they often lead to extreme forcing of magnetospheric convection. Here we consider the initial interaction of a CME with the magnetosphere for the specific case in which there is a sharp increase in the dynamic pressure (interplanetary shock) that is ...

Thinning of field‐aligned currents

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1982
It is common to describe the field‐aligned currents associated with auroral arcs in terms of an Alfven wave propagating earthward. Taking account of convection, the wave can be stationary relative to the earth with its normal nearly perpendicular to the field. Far enough ahead of the wave linear theory is valid and here theory is restricted to both the

Signatures of field‐aligned currents in Saturn's nightside magnetosphere [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2009
We report first results of a survey of near‐simultaneous and near‐conjugate magnetic field perturbations observed over Saturn's northern and southern nightside auroral regions on ∼40 periapsis passes of the Cassini spacecraft during 2008. Structured azimuthal fields that are generally anti‐symmetric north and south were observed at auroral latitudes on

Field-aligned currents in the magnetosphere

On the structure of field-aligned currents in the mid-altitude cusp [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2006
Abstract. We analyse two crossings of the polar cusp at mid-altitudes (≈4 RE) by Cluster in order to study the structure of field-aligned currents associated with the injection of magnetosheath plasma. The current density is deduced independently from magnetic field and from particle flux measurements.

Simultaneous field‐aligned currents at Swarm and Cluster satellites [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2015
AbstractWe show for the first time, with direct, multispacecraft calculations of electric current density, and other methods, matched signatures of field‐aligned currents (FACs) sampled simultaneously near the ionosphere at low (~500 km altitude) orbit and in the magnetosphere at medium (~2.5 RE altitude) orbits using a particular Swarm and Cluster ...

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Current‐voltage relationship in downward field‐aligned current region [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2005
Field‐aligned electrons accelerated upward from the ionosphere to the magnetosphere are the principal charge carriers in the auroral downward field‐aligned current region. Current densities, typically of the order of a few μAm−2, are sustained by potential drops of several 100 V up to a few kV.
