Field‐aligned currents between conjugate hemispheres [PDF]
Interhemispheric field‐aligned currents flowing between dayside conjugate ionospheres are calculated for different seasons. The currents are a result of redistribution of original three‐dimensional currents because of different ionospheric conductivity in dark and sunlit conjugate hemispheres.

Dayside field‐aligned current source regions [PDF]
The source regions of region‐0 (R0), region‐1 (R1), and region‐2 (R2) field‐aligned currents (FACs) were statistically determined using DMSP particle precipitation and magnetometer data. Each FAC sheet originates from more than one region in the magnetosphere, depending on the latitude and the magnetic local time (MLT).

Voltage rectification effects in mesoscopic superconducting triangles: experiment and modelling [PDF]
The interaction of externally applied currents with persistent currents induced by magnetic field in a mesoscopic triangle is investigated. As a consequence of the superposition of these currents, clear voltage rectification effects are observed.

Determination of Auroral Electrodynamic Parameters From AMPERE Field‐Aligned Current Measurements
We calculate high latitude electrodynamic parameters using global maps of field‐aligned currents from the Active Magnetosphere and Planetary Response Experiment (AMPERE).

Kelvin-Helmholtz Vortices as an Interplay of Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling
The solar wind-magnetosphere interaction drives diverse physical processes on the flanks of Earth’s magnetopause, and in turn these processes couple to the ionosphere.

Determination of vertical profiles of shell currents in the ionosphere [PDF]
In previous works, we found Euler potentials for the combined magnetic field of Earth's dipole, field-aligned currents, ring current, and the magnetopause surface currents (represented by Dungey's term) in the magnetosphere.

Filamentary Alfvénic structures excited at the edges of equatorial plasma bubbles [PDF]
Recent observations performed by the French DEMETER satellite at altitudes of about 710 km suggest that the generation of equatorial plasma bubbles correlates with the presence of filamentary structures of field aligned currents carried by Alfvén ...

On the role of neutral flow in field-aligned currents [PDF]
In this brief note we explore the role of the neutral atmosphere in magnetosphere–ionosphere coupling. We analyze momentum balance in the ion rest frame to form hypotheses regarding the role of neutral momentum in the lower ionosphere during ...

Field‐aligned currents during IMF ∼0 [PDF]
We report on field‐aligned currents (FAC) obtained from precise magnetic field measurements made on‐board the Ørsted and Magsat satellites when the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) was near zero. We found that Region 1/Region 2 currents persist through southward IMF, IMF ∼ 0, and northward IMF; also the central area of both the northern and southern

Downward auroral currents from the reconnection Hall-region [PDF]
We present a simple (stationary) mechanism capable of generating the auroral downward field-aligned electric field {that is} needed for {accelerating the ionospheric electron component up into the magnetosphere and confining the ionospheric ions at low ...
