Rheocasting versus Die Casting: An Insight into the Low‐Cycle Fatigue Behavior of AlSi7Mg0.6

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study compares rheocast lightweight components with high‐pressure die cast materials regarding microstructure and fatigue behavior. Rheocast process offers higher efficiency due to lower casting temperatures. Despite some microstructural differences, both processes show similar strengths (yield strength 125 MPa, tensile strength 240 MPa).

Direct torque control versus indirect field-oriented control of induction motors for electric vehicle applications

open access: yesEngineering Science and Technology, an International Journal, 2020
Performance and energy efficiency of induction motors (IM) used in electric vehicle (EV), by applying two control methods, namely the indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) method and the direct torque control (DTC) method, are compared.

Realizing lateral wrap-gated nanowire FETs: Controlling gate length with chemistry rather than lithography

open access: yes, 2012
An important consideration in miniaturizing transistors is maximizing the coupling between the gate and the semiconductor channel. A nanowire with a coaxial metal gate provides optimal gate-channel coupling, but has only been realized for vertically ...

Field-control, phase-transitions, and life's emergence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Instances of critical-like characteristics in living systems at each organizational level as well as the spontaneous emergence of computation (Langton), indicate the relevance of self-organized criticality (SOC).

Design of an adaptive PI speed controller for FOC-driven underwater thrusters

open access: yesBrodogradnja
Underwater thrusters are the primary actuators in marine vehicles. The thruster drive and control methods for these thrusters considerably influence their dynamic response, accuracy, and efficiency.

Field oriented control of induction motors [PDF]

open access: yes
Induction motors have always been known for their simple rugged construction, but until lately were not suitable for variable speed or servo drives due to the inherent complexity of the controls.

Transfer of Energy and Momentum Between Magnetoactive Surface Microstructure and a Solid Object

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that magnetoactive multilamellar arrays subjected to a rotating magnetic field can function as platforms for controlled transport of physical objects. Through systematic experimental investigation, we elucidate the underlying physical mechanisms determining the upper limit of the achievable transportation speed in such magnetic “conveyor‐
