Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Global Mapping of Potential and Climatic Plant‐Available Soil Water

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2023
The estimation of plant‐available soil water (PASW) is essential to quantify transpiration fluxes, the onset of heatwaves, irrigation water management, land‐use decisions, vegetation ecology, and land surface memory in climate models.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The effect of soil water content and biochar on rice cultivation in polybag

open access: yesOpen Agriculture, 2020
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) production is important in the national food of Indonesia. The growth and yield of rice can be increased by the soil water supply and biochar application into the soil in a polybag.

RETENTION CURVES AND AVAILABLE WATER CAPACITY IN LATOSOLS [PDF]

open access: yesEngenharia Agrícola, 2018
Water stored in the soil between field capacity and the permanent wilting point, is known as the available water capacity. Its availability to be effectively used by plants depends on the type of soil and its water retention characteristics.

Characteristics of aerobic capacity in swimming and field groups.

open access: yesThe Annals of physiological anthropology, 1985
The purpose of this study was to compare the aerobic capacity during swimming and running from the view point of maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and anaerobic threshold (AnT). Fifteen subjects (9 swimmers and 6 field athletes) performed progressive exercises until exhaustion by use of a treadmill and an experimental swimming pool.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

A general slip-line field solution for the ultimate bearing capacity of a pipeline on drained soils

open access: yes, 2015
An accurate evaluation of the ultimate bearing capacity of a cylindrical foundation is crucial for predicting pipe-soil interaction behaviors. A general slip-line field solution is derived for the ultimate bearing capacity of a pipeline on the drained ...

Irrigation Scheduling Based on Wireless Sensors Output and Soil-Water Characteristic Curve in Two Soils

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Data-driven irrigation planning can optimize crop yield and reduce adverse impacts on surface and ground water quality. We evaluated an irrigation scheduling strategy based on soil matric potentials recorded by wireless Watermark (WM) sensors installed ...

Crop Coefficient Estimation and Effect of Abscisic Acid on Red Cabbage Plants (Brassica oleracea var. Capitata) under Water-Stress Conditions

open access: yesAgriculture, 2023
Understanding the anticipated impact of climate change on agriculture, as well as water conservation, is critical to achieving food security. Therefore, during this critical time and due to reduced water resources and increased food demand, it is ...
