Field‐Enhanced Ionization

physica status solidi (b), 1970
AbstractAt field strengths which can lie markedly below the critical values for impact ionization and Zener extraction, field induced changes in the capture cross section, barrier height, and frequency factor of Coulomb‐attractive centers due to a deformation of the potential around the center and induced by the external field can cause a marked ...

Metal-enhanced bright-field microscopy

Applied Optics, 2020
Transparent samples pose serious challenges in bright-field microscopic imaging due to their low optical contrast, which also affects the imaging speed. While the role of the substrate in enhancing optical contrast has been investigated for imaging modalities such as fluorescence, a similar analysis for bright-field imaging has not ...

Far field detection of terahertz near field enhancement of sub-wavelength slits using Kirchhoff integral formalism

open access: yesOptics Communications, 2010
We demonstrate that the near field enhancement of sub-wavelength slits can be experimentally determined in the far field by using a reference aperture Our simple model derived from the Kirchhoff integral formalism shows that enhancement of the near field

Enhanced backscattering of optical vortex fields

Optics Letters, 2005
The effect of an incident field with a phase screw dislocation (a so-called optical vortex) on the shape of the enhanced backscattering cone was studied theoretically and demonstrated experimentally. We show that the correlation function of the incident field acts as a filter that modifies the shape of the enhanced backscattering cone.

Enhanced field emission investigation of aluminum

IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation, 1989
Enhanced field emission on high-purity aluminum has been investigated. The current/voltage characteristic (Fowler-Nordheim plot), the chemical composition as determined by Auger electron spectroscopy and X-ray microprobe analysis, and the topography of field-emitting sites were studied locally. In addition, results on the evolution of these sites under

Field-enhanced scanning optical microscope

Optics Letters, 2000
We present experimental results of an imaging technique that uses as a local probe the optical field enhanced at the junction of a scanning tunneling microscope illuminated by a p-polarized laser beam. Images of highly oriented pyrolithic graphite, recorded at a constant height mode, show a lateral optical resolution of as much as 10 nm.

Enhancing open access in the biomedical field

Proceedings of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, 2010
AbstractThis study was designed to document the state of open access (OA) in the biomedical field in 2009. PubMed was used to collect bibliographic data on target articles published in 2009. Google and PubMed were then used to establish the availability of free full‐text online versions for these articles.

Some comments on models for field enhancement

Ultramicroscopy, 2003
To estimate the apex field-enhancement factor gamma(a)associated with a pointed protrusion on a flat planar surface, the simple physical models of a 'floating sphere at emitter-plane potential' and a 'hemisphere on a post' are often discussed. The corresponding mathematical expressions have the form: gamma(a)=m+h/rho, where rho is the sphere or ...

Field enhanced adsorption

Surface Science, 1988
Abstract The effect of an electric field on physical quantities like desorption energy, binding distance, vibrational frequency and residence time of single He or Ne atoms adsorbed on W is studied by means of energy-resolved atom-probe spectroscopy.

Electromagnetic-field-enhanced desorption of atoms

Physical Review B, 1990
On decrit comment l'excitation collective des electrons dans une petite particule metallique conduit a un renforcement (augmentation) considerable du champ dans la region de la surface; ce qui induit des transitions electroniques resultant eventuellement en la desorption des atomes.
