A Model for Effective Field Enhancement for Fowler-Nordheim Field Emission

IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 2005 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science, 2005
The local field enhancement factor β is often introduced in the Fowler–Nordheim equation to represent the geometrical effects at the surface of the cathode, where β(s)=En(s)∕E0 for macroscopic applied field E0. Local variation of β determines the local normal surface electric field, En(s), resulting in local dependence of injection current by the ...

Field enhancement in apertureless near-field scanning optical microscopy

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2001
The near field of an apertureless near-field scanning optical microscopy probe is investigated with a multiple-multipole technique to obtain optical fields in the vicinity of a silicon probe tip and a glass substrate. The results demonstrate that electric field enhancements of >15 relative to the incident fields can be achieved near a silicon tip ...

Lightless Fields: Enhancement and Denoising of Light-Deficient Light Fields

2020
Modern focused light field cameras are capable of capturing video at over 160 frames per second, but in so doing sacrifice shutter speed. Outside of laboratory environments, lighting can be problematic resulting in noisy light fields and poor depth reconstruction. To enhance and denoise modern focused light field cameras, we create a unique deep neural

A sensitivity-enhanced field-effect chiral sensor

Nature Materials, 2008
Organic thin-film transistor sensors have been recently attracting the attention of the plastic electronics community for their potential exploitation in novel sensing platforms. Specificity and sensitivity are however still open issues: in this respect chiral discrimination-being a scientific and technological achievement in itself--is indeed one of ...

Crystal quality enhancement by magnetic fields

Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology, 2009
From the latter half of the '90s, many studies of the effects of magnetic fields on protein crystallization have been carried out. It has been found that the crystallization of proteins under both homogeneous and inhomogeneous (gradient) magnetic fields enhances the quality of protein crystals.

Enhanced backscattering in a magnetic field

Waves in Random Media, 1991
Abstract By means of numerical simulations the authors study the scattering of a beam of p-polarized light from a small RMS slope one-dimensional random surface on a semi-infinite metal or n-type semiconductor to which a constant magnetic field is applied. The surface is defined by the equation x 3=ξ(x 1), where the surface profile function ξ(x 1) is a

Curve Enhancement Using Orientation Fields

2009
We present a new method for enhancing the contrast of curve-like structures in images, with emphasis on Transmission Electron Microscopy tomograms of biological cells. The method is based on the Orientation Field Transform, and we introduce new techniques for generating directions and weights of the orientation field.
