Covering techniques and rational points on some genus 5 curves

open access: yes, 2015
We describe a method that allows, under some hypotheses, to compute all the rational points of some genus 5 curves defined over a number field. This method is used to solve some arithmetic problems that remained open.Comment: Contemporary Mathematics AMS,

Fixel‐Based Analysis of Diffusion Imaging as a Quantitative Marker of Disease State in Spinocerebellar Ataxia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs) are a group of genetically heterogeneous neurodegenerative diseases causing progressive deterioration and reduced quality of life. Therapeutic advances have been limited by a lack of sensitive anatomic, functional, or diffusion imaging‐based biomarkers.

Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves using machine learning and dynamic mode decomposition

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Summary Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves is investigated through feedforward and recurrent neural networks as well as dynamic mode decomposition. The goal is to predict future ship motion variables based on past data collected on the field, using equation‐free approaches.

Examining undergraduate student retention in mathematics using network analysis and relative risk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Higher education faces challenges in retaining students who require a command of numeracy in their chosen field of study. This study applies an innovative combination of relative risk and social network analysis to enrolment data of a single cohort of ...

Optimized Cell‐Based Platform for Platelet‐Free Detection of Heparin‐Induced Thrombocytopenia Antibodies

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study optimized a cell‐based ELISA for HIT antibody detection using PF4‐coated breast cancer cells (MDA‐MB‐231). Enhanced binding was observed at 50 mM NaCl and 4% paraformaldehyde fixation. Live MDA‐MB‐231 and HCT‐116 cells demontrated superior sensitivity and specificity, providing a promising platelet‐free alternative for clinical HIT diagnosis.

MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF WAIRAKEI GEOTHERMAL FIELD [PDF]

open access: yesThe ANZIAM Journal, 2009
AbstractMathematical modelling of Wairakei geothermal field is reviewed, both lumped-parameter and distributed-parameter models. In both cases it is found that reliable predictions require five to ten years of history for calibration. With such calibration distributed-parameter models are now used for field management.
